Which Tires to Get?
« on: August 06, 2007, 04:52:03 PM »

69 Dart - 440 - 3.91 8 3/4 around 450 HP 500 Torque.  Upgrading to 550HP and 600 Torque shortly.  Car has been sitting and I have severe tire rot.

I can fit 225 or 235's out back.  What tires should I get?  The two that pop in my head are Mickey Thompson's and BF Goodrich Drag Radials.  Who's actually run the tires out there and what should I go with for street performance and max straight line traction given the small tread width I'm working with?

How about Hoosier R6 Radials?  Any help would be appreciated!!!   thank you

run the m/t drag radial. i have gone hi 7s low 8s on 315x60/15. i have used the 235/275/295/315 on a bunch of my cars and there the only ones to run. if you go to a headsup drag radail event thats all anyones running that buys there own tires. i have tried the goodyrs/bf/hoosiers/m&h/nitto and the m/t right know are the best. the goodyrs are starting to show good et's but i would wait intill next yr to try them again.

Thanks!  This is for the street so I'm assuming the street legal ET Street Radial is the way for me to go?

I second the M/T Drag radials.  Don't forget, you'll need radials on the front too.

Hey, what about Phoenix ?  I ran M/T's for a few years and liked them, but decided to give Phoenix a shot, just for the hell of it, and was impressed with the way they hook.  Phoenix bought the old Firestone moulds.

I currently have 225/70R15's in the back.  M/T doesn't have this size - closest thing is the 235/60R15.  I found a very helpful website that does all the tire calculations for you, thought it could help some other people out to:

 http://www.voguetyre.com/TireCalc/index.cfm

According to the conversion table I will be reducing my overall tire diameter from 27.4 to 26.1.  I'm running a 3.91 gear.  Whats the real impact here or is it neglibible?

(Hoping the additional .39 width doesn't rub as well!!)

If you are runnig drag radials out back and skinnies up front I found a good radial to use. BF Goodrich still makes radial TA's in 155/80/15 that are speed rated over 120 mph. They are load rated for over 1000 lbs. I have a set on order as they were back ordered and should have them mid next week.

depending on what you are going to use your car for, remember the Rain. Get real street tire's if it's a driver and a set of slicks on rims for the weekends.

I'm running M/T ET STREET on my car. Just like a slick but has 3 or 4 grooves in them. They are very sticky and good at the track. I have 26x10.5 that is the widest and tallest I can fit on my car.  It is funny because every time I street race I will take it from a dead stop off a red light and I just whip these Camaro SS's like their nothing.  I just hook and Haul ass while their back there wondering what just happened. Dunno
