starter problem
« on: August 14, 2007, 02:59:52 PM »

Why does my Dart become so hard starting after it is warmed up? The starter turns over real slow once it's been running and turned off. It has a stock type starter in it. What aftermarker starter works best for a 400 with 10-1 compression?

Your starter solenoid is getting heat sinked. You need something like the Start em up kit from Painless. While you're at it, go to the late model starter. It's smaller and has more airflow around it. By using the kit from Painless, your solenoid gets full battery voltage while cranking. It'll solve all your cranking woes.

agree  yep.Too much more of that and it'll probably be taking a dump  soon.Heat seems to be killer of all things.

I just went thrue this my self, one other thing you should check is your initial timing.Too much (14degrees for me)in my 440 and I had the same problem as you.Started fine when cold, but as soon as it warmed up it would drag so bad it sometimes would not start.Try pulling a couple of degrees out of your initial.Worked for me
