I used a 1957 ford in a 1972 dart swinger with a 440. The narrowest 9 inch was in a 1957 ford Rancharo or sedan delivery, they are also so close on the spring perch location that it will work without moving and the pinion offset is also very close. So this is a very good swap.

I had an old 9" that was 50's vintage the case had a smooth round back and the pig did not have a fill plug in it, I think it's called a war case. Anyhow, the pinion offset was about 1.5-1.75 inches off to the driver's side from where it should have been. I looked at it and took it back out, it's now bolted under my friends 68 mustang. For around $500 I had moser narrow a housing, new axles, bearings, studs, retainers etc and everything lines up correctly. On small Ford u-joints I ran 10.75 with a 3300 pound car and they didn't break. I would think the dog track on the driveshaft would cause premature wear or breakage of the u-joint.
All that being said, in a street car it would probably wouldn't hurt anything, for a race car I wouldn't/didn't do it.

Almost exact. It's a little wide though, 59.25 inches, but I used a plumb bob and measured it out and a 10-inch rim with 7.5-inch backspace should work - that's giving it an inch on either side, too. Weld makes them with that backspace. Might look funny though. If you can find one, the 65-66 Mustang's were narrower. Most of them had 8-inchers though.

Hi Have exactly that on my A Bod. Currently use 8.5" Welds with 5.5" bs, and looks fine. Gonna inboard and fit 10" Welds sometime in the future - shouldn't loo any different other than more rubber underneath.....

I'm not trying to steal this thread, but last night I found a 69 mustang parts car for sale and I am trying to figure out a good price for it. How much is the 8" worth to anyone here trying this swap?
Thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't pay anything for an 8-inch Ford rear.
