Inner fender clearance .Added my fender pounding pics!Right or wrong??

I read on another post someone was asking about clearancing passenger side shock tower is this only for the Hemi or the 440 also .Or are there some areas that can/should be massaged a little on the inner fender to help with clearance?

clearance it, clearance it, clearance it. My buddies 68 dart with 440/tti headers baked the paint off the inner fenderwell. It will not rub but it will cook off the paint if you don't

440 with b-body HP manifolds WILL contact the inner fenderwell at some point in time. The best way to clearance is to take a large hammer and place it against the metal and hit that hammer with another large (3lb sledge works well) hammer. This produces a much cleaner look than what the factory did on the hemi cars.

Look closely at the area next to the center ports on the manifold. I laid that over a little.

Wow!! Jim is that one that hasn't been clearanced? It sure is close now.So what am I trying to do pound the top of the shock tower over because the inner fender is tight to the shock tower mount now .And how much does it need to go? Am I pounding between my fingers or over outside of that where the finger and pen point where there is no tower behind  Dunno

It's more to the rear of the shock. There's actually quite a bit of space between the fenderwell and shock tower. What happens is the motor mounts sag (DC k-member with 74-78 factory mounts) and cause the clearance to go away. Next time that car comes apart it's getting poly mounts, but then we may have to relocate the master cylinder.

Hard to tell from the pics with the engines in there.I didn't really want to get into cutting the tower and stuff so....... I did a little massaging with the hammer today going to be ok .Hate to pound away on a good part of the car!!

No replies does that mean it's wrong Dunno Hey I got no replies to say that's right or wrong .So I'm kinda wondering if I misunderstood where I was suppose to hammer Dunno( and nobody's saying anything).I didn't want to get into cutting the tower and stuff and from the input this is what I understood it needed.

from what I can tell the whole area needs to be clearanced. I have fenderwell headers on mine and had to make slight room right at the shock support. maybe 1/4 inch...didnt require any cutting although I think it would look better if I took the time to REALLY make it look good. My .02

You know BIG DOG, that doesn't look half bad.  With a little sanding and mud it would be great.  I'm not sure it the center will hit anything or not.

Me thinks you may need to clearance that space at the shock tower area a wee bit more, check this article out, I know it is a 67 Dart, and the guy clearanced the pass side buy cutting the area out but look at the marked up area in one of the pics it shows the clearancing area to be all the way across, also take a look at the other pics with the elephant sitting in there after clearance removal of the inner fender.

I think the area by the shock tower should go in about 1/2 inch or so. then I think there'll be plenty of room.

Did you guys see that Indy Cylinder head has new HEMI valve cover that are relieved for shock tower clearance? What I great idea. Not that I need them.

I have a 440 in a '68 w/ TTI headers. I run a Schumacher Torque Arm and it holds the header from contacting the shock tower. NO contact as long as it's re-adjusted periodically.
