Axle Housing Studs
« on: September 02, 2007, 05:51:00 PM »

I am rebuilding my 8 3/4" rear end side to side . When I was taking off the nuts that hold the brake backing plates onto the housing , I noticed some of the nuts stripped their threads . I went to the Mopar dealer , But I wasn't prepared to pay $ 60 for 10 nuts. I went to a chassis shop and they told me to use "Stover Nuts" They said that's what they use on all their race cars. They said they are Grade 8. One of the parts guy's at my auto parts store said they are "C Grade" which is between Grade 5 and Grade 8 . Any Thoughts

That's what I'm using. You'll have no problems. BTW-I've been a truck mechanic for aklmost 20 yrs and me and all the guys I've ever worked with were always under the impression that all stover locknuts were GR.8, and the "nylock" nuts were Gr.5.  motorinstall
