I've been away awhile - but now I'm finally getting slowed down enough to get back into my dart project and I have questions. I know that just like anything I'll probably get 10 different opinions but I'll try anyways. Its a 76 Dart Lite, 370 hp/400 ftlb 318 stroker I'm in the process of having my 8 3/4 built. stock width 3.55 gear sure grip. Now for the question: What do I use for a rear spring stup? XHD's, super stocks, monoleaf w/ cal trac or some other combination? Mainly it will be a street driver (terror ) with the occasional 1/4 mile and maybe a little road racing. I want a good balance of traction but more on the side of decent handling. I know you can't be perfect at all things I just want a good compromise. I hope I'm not asking too dumb of a question but I've read about 100 different opinions- just trying to figure out what will work for me. One other thing I just read in the last Mopar Action to not use Mopar Green Bearing on the street- whats up with that? Thanks in advvance guys!

xhd's seem like the right one's for what you want to do with your hotrod. green bearings aren't intended for side loading like cornering.

Many people agree that the Green bearings are not good on the street due to the lack of side loading durability. Even Green Bearing themselves say that they are not good on the street. Why not use Green bearings on the front too? Maybe we can start using Green bearings on the third member and eliminate having to set up the gears entirely.
Don't use SS springs if you want the car to handle at all. They have a large arch to them which is good for pushing the tires down under hard launches, but bad for handling. I think the arch would cause heavy oversteering. The XHD sounds good to me. I can't comment on the Cal Tracks or monoleafs. I just think the leafs work well and those are too far from stock for my liking.

bla bla bla.. i have heard that for years now and know too many people with too many street miles on them to worry about it.... maybe on a road course car but in a street car i just don't see the problem....

Yeah it was Ehrenberg and I've also noticed he's got something against Alterkation- he even dissed it on one of their feature cars. Ok so I'll go with the green bearing because that was my plan all along- he just threw a huge wrench in my plan when he said that. What would you guys think about XHD's with cal tracks? or just use an adjustable pinion snubber. Why not use Bill's new rear system on your ride like the one A-body Joe has in his Dart?
I would love to use it but my money trees branches are getting a little bare, I'm gonna have to slow down ad let them regrow, I just bought TTI's, a Firm Feel box, six pack hood, and all the fuel system stuff not to mention I have a little stashed away for the rear end left.

oh yeah- one more thing- what about the ground pounder kit? I think its from Just Suspension that wouldn't be to hard to fabricate but it might interfere with exhaust routing. What do you guys think about this kit- is it all hype?

I've been saying the same thing for years and rational thinking gets pushed aside by anecdotal evidence. Or maybe they just don't go around corners as hard as we do. What ever the reason, good luck with that and just remember we tried to tell you only to help you, not to try to sell you something.

well, if you're running discs on the back you've got no worries. the calipers will keep the axle from flying out ![\/][](http://www.bigblockdart.com/Smileys/classic/finger020.gif) . Kidding, i run them on the street but probably wouldn't use them on a circle track car

go to Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation and check there disks out (rear swap kit i am using is SSBC part # a155). The instructions say that they recommend using the Green axle bearings but you can use the OEM bearings if you want it's just that the brake calliper bracket that bolts over the bearing retainer may need to be turned to fit around the OEM bearing also if you have standard 4" bolt circle axles that were filled and redrilled to 4 1/2 bolt circle you will have problem with the new studs that come with the kit, so you will either need to order new axles with the larger hub or have some steel o-ring type hub extensions milled and then welded onto the outer edge of the hub from what i've been told and then your wheel stud holes redrilled to except the larger shank diameter of the stud. Also here's a link to a thread i started on the green bearings. http://www.bigblockdart.com/index.php/topic,22311.0/topicseen.htmland a link to SSBC http://www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com/products/detail/142/?make=Dodge&model=Dart&year=1969
