Can put my 71 on a rotisserie without sub-frame connectors and no quarter panels on without worrying about it sagging?

A while back someone checked their car with a laser level on a rotissierie and said there was no flex whatsoever.

i like having as most or all of the metal work done before going to the rotisserie. i store the car on edge or if im not working on it

umm...well i don't want to put the quarters on until the whole car is sand blasted, i don't want loose sand in there.
frame connectors would be good insurance by the sounds of it....
im really excited to get it on the rotisserie. i haven't been working on it as much as i should. but things cleared up... made and installed wheel tubs that where rusted. installed some rockers i cut out of a 70 and got most of the panels to bare metal...kinda fun!!

i dont like this....everyone has a different opinion. maybe i shouldn't take the risk. i just hate the idea of loose sand behind the quarters

you should be able to get the sand out by turning the car upside down, sideways, ect......

just weld in a bunch of braces. i think its wierd that people put in frame connectors on a rotissere, but it seems to work for them.

The issue is, the car is basically a unibody structure, when you cut the quarters off, you are taking a huge risk if its on a rotisserie, because the entire weight is supported at the extreme ends of the car, basically at the front and rear bumper brackets. The front does not depend on fenders for the strength, but the rear fenders heep the floor from bending upward, because they take a part of the stress. When the car is on its suspension, the weight is distributed closer inward. My bet, if you cut the quarters off, it may bend just in front or behind the rear wheel wells. Depending on how much of the fender is cut out, it could affect the roof also.
Bracing could work, but you need to make sure its done right. I would brace along the length of the frame rail and brace from the trunk floor to the top of the fenders in a couple of places and install a Z-bar between them.

It'll be a ton of work if the car buckles....and a whole lot less work to put in sub-frame connectors and some bracing......my .02

My car is on a rotisserie right now with the lower half's of the quarters cut off for sand blasting. If your frame rails are in near rust free shape then dont worry about it, your car should'nt bend in a lasting way. do not hang new quarters while on the rotisserie, your car must be sitting on its suspention. I've had my car off the rotisserie several times for various reasons, mostly mock up of bills suspention front and rear and I have no problems whatsoever. uni-body cars are stronger than you think.
