Tire space/room questions
« on: September 10, 2007, 11:02:51 PM »

I am setting up my rear to run a 10" wide street tire and a 15" wide slick. I am getting ready to have the rear narrowed and I'm trying to figure out how much space I need between the rim and the fender lip or frame rail for tire buldge clearance. How far out do slicks normally buldge? Would 3" of space be enough or do I need more?

That really isn't helping me. I am going to have a custom rear clip made to my desired width with coil overs so I am going to have all the room that I need back there. I am just trying to figure out how much of a buldge does a slick with 15 inchs of tread on a 15" wide rim create? I am needing this info so I can have my Dana 60 narrowed and get my suspension set up. I also need this info so I can figure out the correct backspacing on both the Slick and street rims so I can run them off the same width axle without my street tires sitting way in underneath the car. The amount of buldge on average for a 29"-31" slick is all I need to know.

Check the sectional width of the tires you want to run and add at least one inch to either side.

there is no such thing as a 29" or 30" slick with 15" of tread but there is a 33" x 15" on a 15" wide rim that has a sectional width of 18 3/4", so you'll want a least 1" on each side for clearance. 18 3/4"+ 1" + 1" = 20 3/4" or approx 21" from fender lip to frame rail. lets see now 1/2 of 15" is 7 1/2" so that back spacing should put your slick slap dab in the middle of the wheel well.
