Now if I could only learn not to speed I would be OK. Currently under suspension for 108 in a 55

What do you mean ONLY 108 mph, can't you go any faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!           lol LOL

What did that cost $ Huh??

I was doing at least 125mph not too far up the road before I was clocked. So far I have spent well into the thousands between legal representation, fines, safe driving classes etc. Won't have my liscence back till Feb '08. If I would have ran and got caught it would have been much worse.

Thank God, at least you're here to be able to tell us about it instead of in jail or 6' under!  By chance: Have you learned anything?HuhHuh?? And please, don't say to go faster and not get caught.

Last night (June 24, 2006) I went over to a fellow mopar owner's house and traded some parts I had with some he had, we B.S. 'd for awhile and it was getting late so I got in my Dart and turned the key.......turn the key again.........cranking but won't start
Luckily the guy I know has had this problem on his mopars. We did 3 tests
1. we removed the center plug wire from the cap to see if there was spark.
2. bypassed the ballast resistor and check if there is spark again.
3. he had an extra electronic style distributor in his shop, he took it and plugged it into the harness side of the electrical system and told me to turn the key to the on position, then he turn the shaft on the distributor he was holding and found that the pick-up coil on my dist. was shot, so we had to pull the dist. take it into his shop and replace the pick-up coil with a new one, he installed the old style braker plates from a 72 dist. unstead of the coil being secured to the plate with a pop rivet and the screw, the 72 plates secured the coil with the screw and a nipple sticking off of the top of the plate, he also gave me a new pick-up coil, and we put the dist. back together and reinstalled it, started it up and it came back to life, I of course compensated my friend with cash, and proceeded to go home. My wife wanted me to pick up a gallon of milk for the morning, and I needed to put some gas into the tank so I wouldn't run out. Pulled into the mini mart/gas station did my thing, and pulled back out onto the street and up to a red light, some import pulls up next to me and when the light turns green, he floors it and screatches his tires, so I proceed to take off, dump the clutch, and ripped up the asphault, he immediatly backed off, and I started to slow down, and look up into my rearview mirror and see a set of red and blue flashing lights , (OH CRAP!), so I pull over and the lady cop says to me " you know why I pulled you over right?" I said yes officer it was for excessive speed,  she said yes and please let me see your driver's license and registration, so I get my license out and she says, cause it looked like you and the other car were going to drag race   because he squelled his wheels and you took off like a shot, I say's I did not here his wheels , because of my . She went back to her car with my license, and about this time my friend calls me on my cell phone and askes me how the Dart was running and I said" It's running great, but I have a black and white sitting behind me and I think I'll be getting a ticket , He says, "Oh, OK, call me back and let me know what happend", just about this time the officer comes back and gives me my license and tells me to slow it down. WHEW!   I called my friend back and told him what happend, and he said your lucky that the officer did not arrest me for drag racing, I wouldn't call it drag racing because it was less than a block from the time it started untill the time I was pulled over and I prefer to call it "a good old fashioned tire roast"   apparently the officer was behind me the entire time. I appreciate the officer doing her job but I've seen these import cars go buzzing by me when I am driving my daily driver which really is'nt that fast, I just have to wonder were the police are when these import drag racing is being done
Thanks for reading a long story and hope you enjoyed it.

I work with 16-17 year-olds in a high school-I spend valuable time trying to convince them that this type of sh#$t is NOT cool.....Isn't the "need for speed" the main reason we have dragstrips??

For those who feel passing judgement is necessary here are some more details. It was 4:30am on a Sunday morning on a devided highway. I know driving that fast is risky but I was alone and there was no other cars on the road. Also I imediately pulled over.

i have a stretch of road that i test cars on occasionally(wot runs).  how else do you test the car??  i do it with no one else around.  it is 2 lanes each way with a center lane as well.  you can also see about 3/4 mile in either direction too.  i have a few cops as customers and i told them straight up that if i need to test and tune their cars, let the officer who patrols my area know who i am and what i am doing.. they said they will do their best since it is business and i am doing it in the safest possible manner without going to a track.  when i was young i remember doing about 90-100 in my 4 door vette (chevette) lol, thinking i was king.  nowadays, i don't speed in town really at all, just about 70-90 on the highway.

I realize I'm treading thin ice here, cause running from the cops is wrong. I've broken a few laws in my days though, even got caught a time or two. Last big ticket I got was for 144 mph in a 55 zone on SR395 in Washington State near Kennewick. I pulled over knowing I can't out run the radio. Cops were glad I pulled over as well. Thats what saved my ass more less. I won't go into the details, but total fine was $3,380.12. Leason learned, yeah, I lost my '69 charger for 120 days impound also. That part was worse than all of it together.

Tuning on a country road is completely different than running from the cops.  We've all probably done some testing on a back road, but running from the cops is just ignorant.  I'm amazed that the hot chick post got deleted and this crap stays.   Frustrated

i usually go no more than 5 over while driving around everywhere, i plan my trip and leave in plenty of time, why is everyone in such a hurry?

but i live south of town and there are 4 mile stretches of road and only 1 cop on duty for the whole town at night Wink, and usually the commotion happens up north

now why would a cop sit along a road where 1 person drives by every hour at night when there are gangs to be broken up, i dont know

My friend, I ask myself this question almost every day as I drive these roads. Can't people get up a few minutes earlier and just drive the speed limit!  By the way, lets not think I have never exceded the speed limit, I though have never run from the cops.

No ones making judgements, just opinions-I' m sure everyone has their reasons for doing what they do. It's just that a lot of people(not necessarily you) think that the road is their own personal reacetrack. I spend a lot of time on my  bike, and ,yeah I twist it sometmies, but there are diozens of idiots here on 600cc sport bikes that wheelie on the highway -in traffic-at speeds over100mph. Someones gonna be killed, and it's not the biker I'll feel sorry for-it's the mom and 2 kids in the minivan that run their sorry ass over...

Wow, not something I would ever do, and certainly wouldn't brag about it.   Just not cool at all.  Total disrespect for other people's lives.  I could care less if someone running from the cops gets killed in a crash.  It's the innocent victims that concerns me.  Sorry, but I take that kind of crap pretty seriously...

agree I appreciate honest conversation. I also do not wish to be seen as a bad guy. I pulled over and am serving my punishment and not driving. There are a lot of people building street machines that are way faster than they need to be. Why? Because we intend to drive them responsibly I hope.............Dave

I 'm amazed poeple can go half as fast as they do here....with my 4.10's my top speed for cruising is 60mph.  Slow lane for me.  Even in my ram van I've never exceeded 70"ish" mph.  I out grew driving fast on the streets when i was 22-23.

Austin,
You mentioned several things that I can't see taking lightly.   The title of the post was about running from the cops.  Your last post says you've done that "on occasion", implying a FEW TIMES?  You also mentioned split second decisions.

I've made split second decisions about whether to stop or continue when a light turns yellow.  Or, whether to quick pass before a road narrows.   Those kinds of decisions are usually quickly made and at any time it could end up being O.K. or end up being a mistake.   But to decide to outrun the cops, that's a long term decision all the while you're doing so.

Just not cool, not cool.   The last time I was pulled over was for doing 71mph in a 55 in my 'tona.   The cop was going the opposite way and pulled a u-turn.   I pulled over, shut her off and waited for the guy to catch up.   Called him "sir" and was very decent toward the guy.  He wrote me up for no front license plate.

My brother-in-law took a friend out in his (very exotic), unregistered road race car.   Did a couple of burnouts and a smokin' u-turn when a cop pulled up behind him.   He pulled over.   The cop said "well, I can arrest you and impound the car, or you can get out and show me under the hood of this thing".  The cop let him go.

If you break the law, step up like a man and be accountable.  It may not turn out as bad as you think...

no need to apologize man, i dont see you as the bad guy at all. cops arent always the good guys either, they break laws like its no joke, and if i could run without being caught, i probably would.  i know people get all upset over this, but its in our blood. its in our music, movies, television. about the comparison to that hot chicks thread and banning this post, dont even go there, all people are talking about is their real life experiences. you may not like it, but its their story when they were younger and its true, why stop them from telling us. cops are gonna catch most people that run, but to those that get away, i applaud em because its not easy to do

A guy I know that used to be in the military and loved to mess with local police (which a lot of them were his friends and that might have helped) late at night with his 03 Ford Cobra it was black with tinted windows, blacked out headlights and tail lights (covers). The Cobra was pullied and could run 12’s pretty easy.

The funny part was he knew where their “traps” were and since he ran with no lights on and tripped their radar guns with 120+ mph passes they didn’t even chase him…hard to chase what you can’t see out in the country. How would they radio that in “we had something fly by us at 100+ but we don’t know what it was or where it went”..LMAO

here is one that all of you can laugh at and i will say however funny it sounds it is the gods honest truth , wy father and i were in the garage working on his trailer and my mother , take note my mom pulls in the driveway walks casually back to the garage and says Philip what does it mean when the cops spin around and come up behind you with lights on , and flashing , that means you are to pull over mom oh she says well they must have been after someone else then , my dad and i look at each other and in (sliding sideways ) pulls the cruiser and boom another from the other direction , we are smiling , what happens , they run in the driveway and tackle me handcuffs , just being rude to me and my parents , throw me into the car and push my parents away from the car and threaten to arrest them as well , so off we go to the station , my parents show up with the cheif of police , who was their best man when they were married , so in the end i got to listen to all the silly stuff and i got an apologie , not that they were happy about that but, we still laugh about it , one of the few times i was smiling leaving a police station .

Would you applaud that same person if they killed an innocent motorist while trying to flee?  I lost an uncle in November of 2005 when a young lady decided to run instead of pull over.  She struck my uncles car at over 100 mph, killing him instantly.  She survived the crash and was convicted of 2nd degree murder and is now serving an 18 year prison sentence, at the ripe old age of 29.  She has thrown the better part of her life away and put a family through hell.  Think about it.

Let me add a little to this from the other side.  In my 13 years as a cop, I've had way too many people go high-speed when I've tried to stop them. Some get away, mostly because we don't chase for traffic violations anymore, some get caught, and about 30% end up crashing out. One particular night my partner and I stop this guy for picking up a hooker. As we walk up to the truck the hooker jumps out and he frams it to the floor and is gone before we can get back to our car. Well about an hour late we see him again and do a u-turn on him. He again takes off and goes flying down a dirt road. We back off cause the dust is so thick you can't see 10 feet in front of you. As we follow his tire tracks you can see where he started to fishtail, then you see where the tires leave the road and then we come upon his truck on the roof with no one inside. We call for a K-9 to see if we can track the guy but I end up finding him about 5 minutes later. He is face down in the ditch where he landed after being thrown from the vehicle. The paramedics worked him but he was DEAD when he got to the hospital. There are several more stories like this with more tragic result that I could relay but I'll spare you the chastisation. Running from the cops is NOT cool, it's NOT fun, it IS stupid. You could kill yourself, someone else or one of the men or women who are out there to protect you. I'm sure there are some of you who have issues with cops, and I'll be the first to say that I work will some real *$@#! But nothing is worth your life and or freedom. Don't be stupid. My 2 cents.

Don't reply to stupid posts.  It just perpetuates the problem.

cops are gonna catch most people that run, but to those that get away, i applaud em because its not easy to do

Think about it.

ok, let me rephrase my post " I applaud anyone who can get away and not harm the general public" . of course i wouldnt be glad to see someone get hurt, and depending on the crime, id probably be rooting for the cop. but if its just an a-hole cop like that one on that other mopar board rangeryouknowwho who wants to prove he's a bad ass, i wouldnt be rooting for someone like that, cause next time it could be me on the other end.
