please post pics of how you mounted your tach. I just bought a 5" tach for my duster and have no idea where to mount it or how. Thanks Ron

thats why I got a very small digital one. I had a 3" analog one on the column but I didnt like the placement or mount (a large steel hose clamp). now the 2 1/16 digital one with a shiftlight is just behind the shifter on the console using a cheapo bezel I got at a swapmeet.

i opted for the sleeper approach, of course you can still easily see the shift light. but you can't see the tach from outside the car

I have a small 3 inch tach that is mounted on the drivers a post. It is very easy to see there.

Large hose clamp to the column. I like to be able to see my tach and shift light without taking my eyes away from the windshield.

Here is one I made out of 1"strap and a 3/8 steel tube. I tried to attach, but won't let me. Let me know where I can send it and I will be glad to. File is 786KB.

I have some parts for a mount I thought might lend itself well to a relatively serious sleeper. I grabbed an old broken Black&Decker snake light for $1 at a swap meet and grabbed the flexible neck from that. Plan is to mount one end under the dash and the other to the digital tach/shift light. pull it up to where I can see it when I need it and just push it back under the dash somewhere when its not needed. maybe wire in a small switch to be able to turn it off when not in use. might even end up mounting the line lock switch to it as well
pics when I get it mounted.
edit: B-onefan , so ahead and PM it to me if you can and I'll post it for you

here is a bracket that i have used a couple diff. times. i screw it under the lip of the dash, so no holes in the pad. you take the stock tack bracket off, and slide the tack through it. you can angle it also. it is tight and works good.

Iv gone the hard core approch, since my car started out as a write off my dash was never very easy on the eye, and when I built the cage I wanted the front droping bars as close to the A piller for more room which left a difficult install for the factory dash, since I lived in New Zealand at the time a replacment dash for a left hand drive A body was out of the question, hence the custom dash, I mounted my tach right in my face because once you stage the car you dont have time to look away to check you rpm's and look back at the tree,

pictures are of a tach mount I made. It is out of 1: strap and 3/8 steel tubing. I will drill 2 holes thru the dash and bolt thru to a 1” strap that runs to the firewall for support. The 2 holes are easily welded up and puttied if needed

Any thoughts on an in-dash tach? Did any of these cars come w/ a tach on the dash? I have a '74 scamp and would like to have a tach on the dash but I can't come up w/ a good way to do it. There's a small unused area to the left of the speedometer that I thought putting one, but I can't seem to find a guage small enough to fit that spot. Are there any other options? I'm not planning on racing the car much so I don't really care how small or out of line of sight it is.

Mounted on pillar post...used a piece of flat stock then welded a piece of 3/4 inch square to flat. Drilled holes in flat to mount to pillar..made mount for tach on end of 3/4 tube.
