1965 a body project
« on: September 22, 2007, 10:36:24 PM »

Here's my 65 Dart 270 273 4bbl 4 speed car soon to be 440 powered.  Was wondering if anyone on here has built headers for the early A's.

I love it, nice work.  I built a 65 Dart with that color &  383 4 speed.  It was one of my favorate cars until a church bus ran over it & totaled it.   hammer Seeing your car makes me miss that thing,  I just bought a 64 to start building again though so keep me motivated with more pics. motorinstall

Jess maybe they were confused and thought it was a "DEMON"  lol  lol
Sorry about the pun,  I feel your pain man.  I'm always afraid someone is going to run into my car.  I can't imagine how bad that would suck.

I had two other 65's but was never happy with the trim. I finally got the re pops from Laysons, ( first run of 100 sets ). Now they are 200.00 cheaper than when I got them. Ah well, they look good.

Ni work on your car. Was it a 273 Charger engine from factory? In that case it's one out of 271 w/273 and 4-speed. Let me know if you want your fendertag decoded. Was your car built in LA?

Yes, it was a factory 4 speed 273 Charger.  Tranny was in about 100 pieces when I got the car but still have the original motor.  I liked it because it was also a 270 model with factory bench seat, rather than most that were the GT's with buckets.

Yes, the car was also built in LA?  Is that of any significance, or the only place they were made?

I checked for a friend of mine in San Diego and they are extremly rare. It seems that most of them were done in LA. In 29 years i've heard of two!! Yours and his. But he has an automatic!

Rare since it is a 270 model with 4 speed and commando motor?  I have seen quite a few GT's but this is the only 270 I have seen with the hipo and 4 speed in it factory.

If 271 units were done in 65, how many of them are left today? You have a rare one!

Mopar451, How about posting some pictures of your 65?   I'm just starting mine and would love to see what your looks like.
Thanks,

I'm using the factory 14x5.5 steelies and having a set of 15x10 steelies made for drag racing days.

I used Pro-parts headers from Bob Mazzolini (?) in Riverside , CA. You can still get tehm new. They are a semi fenderwell design though and fit a 440 a little better than a 383/400 down on the pan rail, they hit a little on a B, would clear a RB. I had to alter 2 tubes to fit the 400/451 in my '65 A, the passenger fender tube was sectioned about 3 inches to bring it closer to the inner fenderwell, and the 6 or 8 tube was altered a little to get it around the pitman/torsion bar.
