Re-popped '68 GTS Hood Inserts w/ pics
« on: September 29, 2007, 08:50:45 AM »

Sprung for a set of '68 GTS re-pop hood inserts. The ones that came on the car were painted silver (did the come as OE like that?). They looked OK. Not Great.

The repops have excellent Fit & Finish. Same size as OE (eyeballing). Just as heavy as OE.

VERY well packaged. Came in a huge box. Bubble wrapped inserts.  Loaded w/ Stryfoam slats. Shipping a little high.

Very high quality chrome finish. Like a mirror. No red overspray. Studs OE length. No thread cutting nuts included.

When the package was on the door step, I see the shipping tag written in Chinese.  A red flag went up. Sort of mad.  emailed the seller. Asked " I thought the repros's were made in Canada" He replied "We made the tooling here, but have them manufactured in the far east". No big deal.

They seem like a stong buy, unless somebody can find something wrong w/ them.

If anybody buys a set of these, I have a whole bag of new 3/16" thread cutting nuts from NAPA.  I could not find these at the hardware store (3), Autozone or Advance. I can ship 10 (2 extra) there easy to drop into the hood corner N/C.

Bought them from PG Classic. About $350 to-the-door.

Hi Joe,

Here are their '69's

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-69-Mopar-Dart-GTS-Hood-Inserts-Trim_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ140705QQihZ002QQitemZ120166804205QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I stripped the paint of my OE inserts & put them on eBay. I hope they'll pay for the repops.

no one wants originals now. a year ago i didnt think the repops would ever be here, and i thought my car would be ready a lot sooner, so i got a set of pitted originals and paid a nice amount. even had a broken stud or two. then the repops came out, and i needed some cash, so i put mine up for sale. got about half of what i paid for my originals, a little less actually, and that was after two failed attempts to sell em on the bag. new ones look real nice

Those look very nice! For my Road Runner, the grille is repopped in China and my front fenders are from Taiwan.  Grin

Those inserts look nice, I need a set too.  I wish they would have used threaded studs though.  Undecided

Absolutely no question that those are great looking and the price (as silly mopar prices go these days) is quite reasonable. Nice to see that someone picked up on re-popping them. Excellent pictures. Just remember the word "patina" is coming back into vogue.

His prices are very good. His quality seems top notch. I am eyeing his lenses.

'68 Dart tail light lenses

Year one $248 to-the-door ( discount code exempt)
PG Classic $163 to-the-door

Sorry to rain on the parade, but the finish is wrong. The outside is supposed to be argent and I seem to recall the thin areas between the "stacks" are supposed to be black. I'll go out and look at my originals today. The only bright chrome is supposed to be the top edges (and maybe the edge of the base).

Jim & A13,

You rained on my parade! Cheesy

The ones that were on the car had the argent and black paint. I guess that was correct.

Since this is not a concours car, I think the repops look much nicer. They shine more. I dunno.

I agree with you Pro Street, the repops look better than original.

Got any more pictures of the 68 ?  I'm thinking about painting mine white.  Smiley

The 69 ones are just as nice too, just my two cents

Got them about 2 months ago, now I made the 440 emblems to go inside to finish them

Have you guys noticed the 68 & 69 tail lenses and bezels are all over ebay now, Last I checked you can get a whole set for $330. Now we can only hope they will start reproducing the headlight bezels and the trunk panel.

I bought a pair of tail light bezels from PG Classic too. Again top notch quality. Just like OEM. No complaints.

I would like to see the headlight surrounds and tail panel repopped. I sent my tail panel out to Special T's to be reworked. It had dings & dents and was painted in GT colors. It came back fair to good. Nothing to write home about.
