Depends how many cycles the rods have seen.  Just make sure the oil and water is up to temp before you get on it hard.

What brand of rod? Some manufacturers state you can run their aluminum rods on the street without worry. KB says run'em. It all about the processing and manufacturing techniques.

Old school aluminum rods were not meant for street use. That's not the case anymore.

The only aluminum rod I would run on the street is the BME rod.  I agree that you can get them to live but none of the big crate motors use them.  Sonny's, INDY, Mopar etc.  The pro's don't quite outweigh the con's.

well you probably won't be using the hotrod for extended trips so aluminum rods are ok but the big thing to look out for is the weight of the trw pistons. it's not a good idea hanging them off aluminum rods.

Don't sit in traffic with the AL rods because the lack of oil cooling at low RPM's would allow the rods to stretch and become junk. That's how it used to be with the old school AL rods...who know about the new stuff....

Visit the 440 source and get some cheap ideas. Nothing wrong with good parts cheap; just don't expect to hit them with 1,000 HP of NOS though. That might be bad.
