Busted my a#$ for a day and a half to get the engine bay primed. . . .
« on: October 05, 2007, 12:27:00 PM »

I woke up early yesterday and said, "damn it I'm gonna get this done today if it kills me".  It almost did.  Grinding, welding, sanding, seam sealing, finished off heater area of firewall, passenger shock tower rolled.  Master cylinder moved(the other day), like bondo to smooth things out.  Last night I couldn't believe how tired I was.  I had to take a 800mg Motrin to ease the pain.  Primered now and only a little more detail work before paint!

Here's the primered pics!  One question though.  I primered the master cylinder block in plans of painting it body color.  My buddy says it will look like crap.  I think it will look like part of the car.

Poll:
Body color or Black?

Paint it with that cast iron gray rattle can stuff. That way it will look like original and not like you were too lazy to remove it while painting the engine bay. After all, they did not come painted with the car color from the factory. Just my 2 cents. Cheers

Take the block off before you paint the bay, even if you paint it body color, so if you take it off later, you wont have a bare spot on the firewall.

that looks real nice, man. Real clean. I would paint it with the cast gray color like deadly dart said.

Very nice work.   Wink    I'd go with the dark cast gray look too.  Details like that really make a car.

Looks cool, thought about doing that to mine.
I was worried that the bondo might crack and fall off
from the engine bay vibrating and flexing.

440demon, I really reinforced the front structure.  The bondo is just a skim coat.  I'm hoping that everything stays put.  I'm pretty sure everything will be o.k.  I welded alot of seams and added metal plate supports in critical areas.

Your engine bay looks great btw.

Illfish,
You must be putting a big block Hemi in your car?   Engine compartment is looking REAL GOOD!   That's pretty much what I'm doing with my cuda, but I'll be running a heater and AC.  The inlets and outlets are going to be in different positions than stock, with no fan motor protruding through.  Once I'm done with their "custom" placements, I'll be welding all the other holes closed like you did.

As for the MC block, I'm going to use the one with the studs facing inward.  I'll run some seam sealer around the edges and will be painting it body color.  Like you, I want it to look like it's just part of the firewall with the MC then bolted to it.

So, my vote is for body color    Grin

Cuda, sounds good.  I really had to move mine because the INDY hemi is a monster in size.

Wow; those first pics look like reflections and make the bay look like it's chromed.  Grin  Nice and clean now!

illfish,
Oh, I remember now.   The Indy Hemi with those nice, krinkle black valve covers I love.    More pics please ...  Grin
