A guy at the track had nice Hemi barracuda with a AAR glass hood and hemi scoop on it. It looked like the fender edges of the hood had a slight bow in it. Any experience with quality/fit issues?

i bought my dart hood at the nats. i just have to find lighter springs. hood will not close with factory springs. usually with heat, the fiberglass will bow especially with any kind of springs.

I will modify your stock springs for your AAR hood. Allen at AAR usually gives his customers my name and phone number. I charge $40.00 plus the cost of US Postal Priority mail, I also include four pushnuts that hold the hinges on the body pins. Not sure on the fenders. I talked to the owner of AAR. He said they build a little arch into the hood from front to back. This is because with heat and use it will lay down flat. He said to not use springs as this will make the hood warp from closing against resistance.

I use a prop rod with mine, but if you install lighter springs you shouldnt have any warping issues.

Yes they make fenders for 67-69 darts, they have the outline for the 69 marker lights, but they are not cut out, so they can be filled for 67 and 68 models. I find it hard to believe that Allen at AAR told you Not to use any springs, since like I said in my other reply, he refers his A-Body Bolt on Hood customers to me for the hood spring mod that I do.
I think that if he said not to use any springs, that he was refering to the STOCK un-moddified springs.
I have been doing this mod for his customers since 2002.
With this mod (at least on 67-69 dart sixpack hoods) the hood opens and closes with very little effort with no resistance and will hold in place at any point in its travel from full closed to full open.

No, the front spring WILL wear a hole thru the bottom side of the hood. You simply adjust the hood bumpers a little higer and that usually tightens up the hood.
You May want to use hood pins if you are planning any High Speed driving, at speeds over the legal limit, the front of the hood will lift.

All the factory AAR scooped 70 hoods did have a bow in them because of the factory springs that pushed up on them. he probably took the molds off an original hood.

Yeah illfish, when I bought my hood, he said not to use stock springs. He recommended Herb.
Say Herb, I bought a set of lightweight springs from someone off this sight quite a while back. Would that maybe have been you?

If you sent your springs to me to modify, I would say yes.
If you bought a set of "NEW" un-moddified springs, then I would say no.

I had trouble with the AAR hood. It looks nice and flat until you sand it. Both sides in the same place at the backside toward the edge had low spots. They were at least 5" by 9" long. The hood must have some type of bow to it. Had to fill the fender edges so the glass fenders matched the hood. Alot of work just so they match up nice.

The AAR hood I bought was perfect, my bodyman said it was the best fiberglass piece he ever saw, all he did was scuff it before he shot it black. It turned out beautiful.  |
