Hi guys, New to .com. I've got a 72 Duster that we converted to a front steer rack. We used Anthony Jones steering arms and I believe the spindles were swapped (the calipers are in the back). As the subject reads, I'm getting a shake at about 50 - 60 mph that I'd liken to "head shake" on a motorcycle. Sorry - I raced Motocross for 20 years and that's the best I could come up with... Anyway - everything is tight, toe varies less than 1/8" through full travel (it's limited to about 6 inches of travel). Tires have been balanced, and it had a good alignment on it before I started messing with it in attempt to resolve this issue. My initial thought was caster, but after reading the tech articles on this site and a couple others, I'm of the opinion the spindles are backwards, which messed up the steering axis incline. So what's the story? Can the spindles be swapped or not? What else should I be lookig for? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks! Jeff

Yes, Mopar spindles can be swapped as they are symmetrical. Your camber should be "positive," that is the upper ball joint behind the lower. The more the better in a drag car (up to a point of course). Stock upper control arms don't allow much +camber, & if the rear is raised it can be even worse. Aftermarket tubular control arms generally help with this. Some are adjustable, some just have 2-4 degrees built into them. correction: he means your CASTER should be positive, angle between the ball joints forward to backwards, camber is tilt in or out of the wheel

So do you agree this is likely an issue with lack of or negative caster? I was going to get another alignment but may hold off since I'm done for the year and it sounds like aftermarket upper a-arms are in order.
Thanks for the replies guys!
Jeff
