Another thing to consider if you're just thinking about it - the T6060 is out now, which replaces the T56 for 08 Vipers. It's a stronger trans, shifts smoother, and has a shift pattern 50% tighter. It only requires a small adapter to replace the T56 directly, which I hear QuikTime is already working on, so it should be an easy bolt on in a few months. The shifter mount is different though.
How much torque can these T6060's handle and where can you find them? I was reading up the page here a little... I'm not going to push much for a "kit" really from anyone. Although over the next couple of months I'll know what pieces are required from where. I'm totally into the 6060 and the quiktime bells, so I'll be researching all about that combination. Since I have an A-body. the whole tunnel comes out anyway.
Frankly, when it comes to these stick conversions, the only right way to do it is remove parts of the floor, even the 5 speeds. Keeping them under the floor puts a god-awful angle on it, usually pointing your headers towards the ground, not to mention the pinion angle change. The 6-speeds also require a big chunk of the trans crossmember be removed, which isn't a big deal with an alterktion, but stock suspension it is, because you lose 2 of the crossmember bolts. we did a couple here, and it worked out best to make a whole new crossmember 3" further back, spanning the full distance between the frame connectors. Here are a couple pics of an e-body we did - we really sunk it up into the floor for ground clearance, probably 2" higher than we needed to, but it worked out real nice. I full expect this much cutting in an a-body install. You can see just ahead of the new crossmember where the old one was - we just boxed in the ends. Obviously this wouldn't be possible with stock suspension, but it might give you some ideas.
Maybe this is a kit you could do? Everything needed to bolt in? Maybe include a new tunnel too?

I'm getting very close to purchasing a T-56, and was wondering does the quicktime bellhousing correct the alignment that mikeR corrected with the scattershied mod or does that still have to be done? Just alittle confused here.

The 6060's are tough, not sure on the actual numbers, but it's rated at like 750hp. They're just starting to trickle in now, not many extras around yet. At the moment, you have to order one through dodge, but I think they're B/O still. But, it doesn't matter yet - tremec isn't done with the adapter yet, so until thats done it won't bolt to the t56 bell. I thought quiktime was making the adapter, but it turns out tremec is making it directly so it'll bolt to all the existing t56 bells on the market. The typical mustang t56 shifters will bolt into it, so that's all fine.
Once I can get a bell and adapter, it's just a matter of the crossmember and floor stamping. The crossmember in the yellow challenger worked out great, so I think I may do something like that, but it's based around the US cartool frame connectors, so it'll be more of a kit that includes those and the crossmember fitted to them. You'd bolt the crossmember and connectors together and weld them under the floor as a unit so everything fit nice.

Updates anyone? I see Quicktime has several new bells out for the T-56......and Viper versions. I'm very interested in either using a T-56 or the new TR6060 in my Challenger I'm building with a 6.1 3G hemi.

Weir Hot rods still doesnt have any parts out, dont think he is in any hurry...............Sounds like Quicktime is the way to go as it is SFI approved. Keisler also has a bell for the 3G hemi to T56, dont know about there SFI though

Does anyone know which is the correct version of the T-56 to go with for the 6.1/3G hemi? Is it the GM version or is this mostly just a function of the correct bellhousing (input shaft length) and pilot bearing? Example-Quicktime bellhousing for small block mopar/GM t-56 or the small block mopar/Viper t-56 version? How about the roller pilot bearing? Does anyone know a part nuimber or application for this?
Is the TR6060 the same between applications-GM vs. Viper vs. Ford meaning is the input shaft the same size/length with the bolt pattern being the only difference.

Are you going to run slicks on it? If you run a radial tire you could probably double the rated horsepower - the big stress is the moment you dump the clutch - even if the tire spins just a couple revs it takes the stress off the trans. This why T5's survive in camaros and mustangs.
However, if you'll really have 1000+ horsepower I think you better look a bit higher than a tremec...

thanks, i forgot about the transzilla. the tr-6060 doesn't have much info and i checked out the d and d performance and it mostly looks like they have the stock trannies... Are you going to run slicks on it? no slicks, the car is going to be for protouring... so mostly radial tires and the plan will be to hit 4 digit numbers... what were you referring to when you said that i should look higher than a tremec?

I picked up a Viper spec Borg-Warner T-56 a few weeks back. I know others such as MikeR have used the viper spec behind a BB Mopar. My question is how do I go about figuring out exactly what parts I need to complete this conversion, such as the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, etc? This is the first time I have ever really messed with swapping a tranny.

I am in the process of installing a t56 behind a 400 in my Dart. I used a quicktime bellhousing and a GM t56. For this setup it needs to be a LS1 style t56. There isnt much need to worry about breaking a t56 with anything pro-touring with low profile tires. A friend of mine has a volvo with a twin turbo LS2 in it and he beats the crap out of it and hasnt broke the trans. Also the quicktime bellhousing is set up so you can use a stock camaro slave cylinder. Camaro t56s are much cheaper you can get them for $200-$500.

that's a good question, not sure... i've seen lots of info on the t56 from vipers but not from the srt-10 rams... maybe the dodge dealer could tell you...

Does anyone know if the viper t-56 has the longer input shaft? Or what exactly is this affecting? And I looked back through MikeR's post and he was using a modified scatter shield because the quicktime bellhousing was not available at the time. But besides that he was using a firebird clutch, a big block flywheel, and a Viper throwout bearing all on a viper spec t-56. Does anyone know if those same parts would work with the quicktime bellhousing? And I have no idea as for what to do for a slave cylinder so if anyone has any insight on that it would be great.

Thanks for the info, and could you provide alittle more as for more specific part numbers? Also besides these parts what else is needed. I know nothing about this conversion but had the opportunity to pick a t-56 up so i couldn't turn it down.
