almost all race/stunt cars are manual steering, just need a quick ratio
They don't need to parallel park.

personally I wont park my car in a spot that tight anyways, your car will be scuffed to no end by the zombies out there.

Well, if you saw my car you'd understand why I'm not too concerned with scuffs.   lol

But yeah, if I do stay with power steering, I will put a firm feel unit in it.

I dunno, when I switched from power steering to manual in my Challenger, it only shaved about two tenths off my quarter-mile time.  And I made a couple other minor changes at the same time so I don't even know how much difference switching to manual even made.

Anyone else have any data about how much switching to manual is worth to ET?

Manual all the way; but as stated by several above, make it fast-ratio.  Wink

On a side note, Chrysler apparently still likes to over-assist their PS systems; I drive the delivery trucks at work on occasion (07 Rams) and the steering is still WAY sensitive...

I swapped manual into my big block Charger in the past, also a 70 Sport Satellite. My 68 rr came with manual. I just like it better. Anyone try the Flaming River manual box?

I have the flaming river box in my 67. I love it! It looks good and works even better. I still get the road feel that I like with a manual box, and it's not as slow as regular manual boxes, though obviously still not as quick as power. I don't have any real issues when trying to park, but maybe that makes me a man? according to this thread?  lol bash Anyway, it is a smallblock car, so there might be a little less weight in there than a big block. It's a good box.

I just did the swap over the weekend.  I haven't driven it much but i like it.  Its is tighter but you can actually feel the road now.  Before i was going back and fourth on the weel every 5 seconds.  It only seems tough while at real slow speeds, but that really is to be expected.  I used the flamming fiver universal joint and shaft, its a real nice piece but if I had used the one piece adapter it would have saved a lot of time becuase there would have been no cutting of the steering column and no test fitting

This is the one piece adapter

http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/mamastad.html

This is the flamming river piece that I used

http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/flristcoad.html

I baught it from summit, believe it or not it was a lot cheaper from there.  I don't regret using that piece becuase it turned out great, works gerat, and looks great.  I was just saying it would have been a lot quicker to use the one piece adapter.

If your using the flamming river piece look for a small pilot hole that is started in the steering column.  It should be easy to find after you remove the factory coupler.  I drilled this hole out for the roll pin that holds the new piece and the column together.  It JUST MADE IT!
