Fixing to change out the punny 7 1/4 rear and drop in a 8 3/4, running a four speed, Does anyone know what the drive shaft length will be needed for the swap. I know my current length will not work but I have cut and welded one before so the work would not be an issue, trying to get idea for what the length diference is.
Thanks 5258

A-bodies since 1978, this one since 1983

Since every car is different I like to measure for mine. Put the yoke all the way in the transmission and with the suspension loaded measure center to center on the yokes. Subtract 3/4" and you'll be good.

When you do the measuring, make sure ALL the weight is on all 4 tires, if you don't the shaft will not fit.

it'll be the measurement from the center of the rear end yoke to the seal rim on the trans less 3 1/2".

It's still the "stupid black car"
|
For a 4 speed and 8-3/4 the length is 48.6"
An 340 and Big Block, 727 and 8-3/4 length is 44.88
This is from a 1968 plymouth service manual

Like Jim said: Don't forget the 3/4". I put it all together and haul it to the driveline shop and let em measure it thenselves and then they fabricate it.
