Speedo. Pinion Gear
« on: October 16, 2007, 11:58:48 PM »

I have a 66 Dart i'm  in the middle of building and these little things, like which speedo-pinion gear I need for correct speedometer calibration is making me nuts.My car has a 4-speed trans. with a new 8 3/4" rear end with 3.91 gears. The rear tire size is 265/50/15. The actual dia. of the tire is 24.750 inflated to 30 lbs. Can anyone help. I have seen charts somewhere but I'll be damned if I can find it.
The car is an original 273 4-speed car, Will putting the 8 3/4" rear end change the length of the Drive Shaft? Will the original 273 radiator be enough to handle a "Blueprint" 408" Crate Motor, 375 H.P or should I upgrade? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

This site has helped me to no end. I've owned 4 1966 Dart GTs over the years. I should know them end to end, and the older I get, the less I remember. I think the 1960s did it to me!
Thanks, again

I used to have a Stewart Warner "transmission" that went on the trans where the speedo cable attaches. It had changeable gears to correct for gear and tire changes. God knows if it's still available or where mine is. Autometer makes an electronic speedo that you install a sender, push a button, drive 1 mile, push the button again... Speedo's calibrated. Probably not what you want, but just giving you some options.
