1968-70 B-Body Owners - Help needed...
« on: October 23, 2007, 06:58:21 PM »

For those of you that don't know, I'm the new owner of Rocky Mountain Dashes, and I'm trying to get the dash for the 68-70 B Bodies finished up and I need an angle measurement taken from owners that can actually sit in the car (I don't have an entire car).  So you'll need two items, a car with the seat and instruments installed and an angle finder.

I need two measurements.  The first measurement is the angle of the top of the dash, just sit the angle finder on top of the dash and record the measurement (point zero straight up).  Then I need you to sit in the car and look down the edge of the angle finder like you're sighting a gun, while looking at the gauge area.  If I can get these two measurements we can continue on.  I'm trying to get a final prototype by the end of the year.

Any of you that can help with this, I really appreciate it.

Here's a pic that I hope can clarify what I need...

You can e-mail, PM or post your measurements here, thanks!

Thanks Tom,

All I really need are the two angle measurements, do you have the tool to do that?  I'm assuming you do, I've seen you're work Smiley

Thanks!

Well, I did the best I could, but not easy to read my angle finder through the windshield.

Car = 69 road runner.

Angle on top of dash = 12*

Angle of sight to instrument cluster approximately 20*

Really I just need the relationship between the top of the dash and the viewing angel (within a few degrees).  So I can build a jig to cut the holes at the correct angle in the dashes, and cut the tubes at the correct angle.  I don't have a door or car so that won't do me any good.  I appreciate the help though, this really helps a lot!

It'll be great to have two sets of measurements to work from.

Thanks again guys!

Hey Mike,

Any future plans to produce a dash cluster insert for 66-67 B-Body cars such as my 66 Coronet 500? There is NO way to put aftermarket gauges in my stock cluster, so I have had to put in the usual "add on" type set up, which really looks cluttered in my opinion. I'm not looking to buy right away, but I might be interested later on if one of your awesome units became available.  Wink

I have a 1 degree rake in my RR with the extra heavy duty springs. I measured my car against b body chassis specs.

Therefore this pics shows a 1 degree rake. Normal ride height would be zero (straight up)

Like Mike, I also had a tough time getting the angle finder under the windshield so I placed a framing square under the glass and rested it on the dash pad. The square is raised off of the steel part of the dash but it is equally gapped and parallel.

I measure 13 degrees down but with my 1 degree rake I should be right at 12, just like Mike.

The next picture is me resting the straight edge on the bottom of the sweep speedometer and moved it up to the centerline of the speedometer approx 1" up from the dash pad and going up to my eyes. I am in a newly upholstered bench seat. I measured 22 degrees down from neutral but I am also 6' - 4" tall therefore Mike is also right on with me.

This pic was taken before I moved the square up to the center of the speedo. That took two hands.

The next picture is the angle of the gauge glass on the speed style speedometer.

The clear plastic gauge face is 35 degrees down from neutral. The actual face of speedometer and gages appears to be 30 degrees down from neutral therfore the clear plastic cover is kicked out 5 degrees more at the bottom.

If you need anything else let me know.

Tom

Hi Mike,

Is the dash panel on the top in your pictures for use on 66 Coronet's WITH factory A/C? Do you also make one that allows for both factory A/C and heater controls and the factory AM radio? I would also want to use  AutoMeter 2 5/8" gauges along with an AutoMeter Monster tach and an AutoMeter speedometer. Would that be possible? If so, what would one of your units run? Could you also give me your web site link? Thank you very much Mike.  Grin

Hi Richard,

Yes this dash is for 66-67 Mopar B-Bodies.  The radio cutouts we make are for modern DIN style radios, and this radio doesn't fit in the dash with an A/C Heater control.  Also a Monster tach doesn't fit either, in the picture you'll see the gauges shown are 3 3/8" tach and speedo, there's just not physically room to fit the 5" gauges.

That being said, here is our web page:

I'm glad you like our stuff!
