Oh yeah, on the top down comment, I will take some as soon as the weather is good, but to tell you the truth, it looks tougher with the top up

The stock 8-3/4 A-body housing in my Dart measured 52-5/8.  The chart in the tech pages should be removed, a few housings have been screwed up because of it.

Well, I HAD thought I didn't like anything less than about a 45 or 50 series tire on our Mopars, but seeing your  (30!) series on there has opened my mind some.   That looks really good!   Where's your website?

Thanks O.J.

I don't have a web site.  I was referring to Duster440's web site.  I wish I had one like his...  (the link is in his signature block)

Hey guys, I'm trying to settle up with the shop that did the narrowing work on my rear end housing.  They first misread their notes and cut the truck housing I provided way to narrow, then they made a second mistake and cut my original stock A-Body housing that was provided only for reference.  They also cut it slightly (2 inches) narrowing that was instructed in writing.  On the third try they provided the housing, did a nice job, and made it right.

The shop and I have decided that what is fair is for me to pay the price that we agreed on, minus the value of my original A-body housing that is now useless.  So, my question is, what is the average street value of an original A-Body bare housing?

Sorry for the long story...  Thanks for your help.

Ok you made me decide on a question that I had been pondering for a little while about narrowing my son's 73 swinger rear. the decision I have made is to go with this rear housing.

Go on ebay and watch a few auctions for reference.  I see them go for way more than 200 not that they are worth that but look at it this way.  If you had a complete original A body rear it would bring 450-500.  Granted selling the guts to it would not get you 300 on their own but if you started with a complete A body 8.75 now all you have is some small bolt axles, small brake parts and a butchered housing. I'd make them cough up 350 if you're using the pig and rest of it.

I had already converted to big pattern Yukon axles and disk brakes and I've installed that on the new housing.  I had planned on keeping the original A-Body housing "just in case" I would ever needed it.  I want to be fair with the guy, but I'm out that stock housing...  I can't believe what some people pay for some car parts on eBay.  Every time I study it I swear I want to get in the classic car salvage / eBay seller business.  There are a lot of people throwing money around for stuff that can't be as rare as some buyers think.

Thanks for the advice.

Hey NWP73, that Moser housing looks great, I got this one from a guy on the net, complete with moser axles for @900 I think.  The stock tank worked but was close, and with the RMS it left no room for the 3 inch exhaust, so removed the spare tire compartment and went with a 20 gallon cell.  Plus this will show off the rear end more.

I think the guy may have also taken more than 1/2" per side.  My housing is now 50.5" on the outside surface of flange to flange.

In the Tech Pages, under Axle Measurements, it show an 8.75" A-Body to have a flange to flange width of 51.4".  Can someone tell me if that 51.4" measurement is the center of the flange or the outside surface of the flange?

Thanks!

Right on... I had mine narrowed to 50.25", gives you plenty of room to run 8" tires in the rear.

Well I will be on the phone to talk to Bill tomarrow I have some questions about the RMS. I am want to narrow the rear and mini tub the swinger to beable to run a 13 in tire. looking at Bills set up it still is outside the frame rails I have designed a 4 link that will allow me to be inside the frame rails. But I do like the looks of the sway bar and could possibly incorp it in my set up. I wouls have to weld in a 2"x3" support between he frame to make it so the sway bar could be narrower and welded to support. I will be talking to Bill tomarrow got me thinking explode LOL

That is the rear that I am going to put in my son's 73 swinger. I called Bill Rielly today and did not relize he was here in PA I am going up to his shop after the first of the year to look at his set up. All I can say is he is a heck of a nice guy had plenty of time to talk to me about what I was doing.
