I'm new to the site, so I see my status is BABY. So since I'm new I'll show my ignorance, perhaps someone could help me with the placement of my 4-speed trans tunnel. I'm working on a '67 Dart GT, installing a 383 w/ 4-speed. I purchased the tunnel from Laysons and decided the best course of action would be to install the engine and trans and get the precise location with the shifter installed on the trans. If I place the new floor tunnel on the existing floor where the contour looks natural, the shifter is very far back in the shifter hole. It doesn't interfere, but it doesn't look right. If I move it back to center the shifter up, it seems to want to interfere with the seat. So I'm looking for someone with a stock 4-speed car (or someone who's done this before) who can give me an approximate measurement from the back of the cross brace to the back of the shifter hole. Does this make sense? Thanks for the help.

The floor hump really only fits in one place. Are you sure the trans is located correctly (with the trans crossmember in place) and that you are using the correct a-body shifter mounting plate on the trans.

I believe the trans is placed correctly. I even bought a new z-bar and ball studs to confirm that I was lining everything up correctly. As I mentioned, the tunnel seems to sit on the contour of the existing floor about perfectly, but places the shifter pretty far back in the hole. I just took a couple of pictures of the shifter, adapter plate, and trans tunnel with shifter sticking through. Unfortunately, I seem unable to post any of the pics (or I'm too stupid to figure this out too).

I put the repop hump in as well, and when positioned correctly the mech. does sit towards the back of the hole... -Michael

I believe you need to have 10 posts before you can do certain things on this board... -Michael

Thanks Sycboi. That looks pretty much like what I'm experiencing. Would you happen to have a measurement from the back of the cross member to the rear of the shifter hole? Have you already put in a carpet kit, and does it appear to fit correctly?

The TrimParts carpet I purchased for it fits like a glove around the hump. Also, the relationship with the corner of the bucket seat is very stock appearing... -Michael

The four speed hump does limit the travel of the seat.

The bucket seats do hit the hump if you try to go too far forward. Also, if you use a bench seat the factory hump had a stop bracket welded to it to limit forward position of the bench so you could put the shifter handle into the required gear without the front edge of the bench preventing it. -Michael

Wow. A veritable wealth of knowledge. So I guess the concensus would be that the shifter is in the rearward part of the shifter hole in the floor hump, and it shouldn't bother me that the seat hits the shifter tunnel. So I guess I can tack it into place as the contour suggests. Thanks for all of the assistance.

Here is what mine looks like. Use the contour of the hump, it will fit the floor appropriately. My repop was from Sherman.

If I may slightly hijack. Anyone have pics of their linkages with the hump removed?
