Finally got My springs moved. Pics
« on: October 31, 2007, 09:54:03 PM »

Finally got around to moving My springs in. I bought a kit from The Car Farmer. I really liked the way they are cut to fit the frame rail shape. I mounted the boxes back 1 inch. I wanted the rear to set as low as possible. So I put the boxes as high as I could and used the upper mounting hole. The front mounting hole is now 1 3/4 inch higher. Ill be moving My shock mounts back as well and modifying the gas tank. I cut only the inside of the rail and drilled holes in the side and plug welded there as well. Now I gotta narrow the rear. Heres some pics. Andrew

Looks good man. Getting ready to do that myself but I'm doing it for the streetlynx system not leafs. But where did you get them? I tried to look up the Car Farmer but had no luck on google. I keep trying to find a kit for a little less than the 129.99 that most what for it.

I also like the way the kit follows the curve of the frame.  Makes it look just a bit more professional, a bit cleaner, a bit more factory.

Good job on the welding.  Welds look clean and secure.  A bit of paint and you're done.

Excellent Job.

Thanks for turning me on to the car farm.

That kit kicks A$$ over the MP kit.  I had installed the MP kit on a Duster years ago, and didn't like the way it looked.  Seems to me that you shouldn't have to remove so much of the frame on any of these kits though.  Although I don't understand why we must remove so much of the rear frame rail with any of these kits.  It would be real easy to make a piece that would only require removing half as much material, since the springs never flex enough to hit the rail anyway.

Yea I have Bill's set-up setting in storage now and also just need the brackets. I saw a set go on Ebay the other day for $110 for just the brackets which I thought was too high for them alone.

ok guys I contacted Bill at thecarfarm.com about just the brackets. he can get them to you for $60 bucks plus 8.95 shipping. give him a call because I don't think you'll find a better price then that unless you made them yourself. Really great guy to talk to. he says he just needs to know if you have the 1/2" or 5/8"

btw bill he says that street lynx kit is very nice.

QK Time, that looks really good.   I like how you left the outer side of the frame rails in tact.  Don't think I've ever seen it done that way.  If I do mine at all, I'm thinking I would do it that way.   However, with the box shifted toward the inside instead of being centered into the frame rail, how does the rear part of the spring line up in the back.   I would think it's offset a bit.   Are you using some kind of offset shackle back there?

Good question SRT8. I will have an answer for You soon. I started with the best way to mount the front boxes. When I decide on which leaf spring to run Ill finish the rears and have an answer on how I did it . I used a tram gauge to make sure the front spring mounts are square with the rest of the car. I will soon decide on springs and mount the rears square with the body. Stay tuned and Ill let Ya know how I did it.

Got in contact with Bill at the Car Farm today and you can order a set of hangers by themselves for $68.95 shipped. I already placed my order and he also said that he had another customer ask about only ordering the brackets. Just thought I would let you guys know.

Awwwright, you guys are making me blush...

Yeah, I think that 4-link setup looks real cool.  If anyone's doing one in the Seattle area, PLEASE   lemme' know if you do demo rides.  I'd love to check it out!

If anyone ever needs individual pieces for the spring kit, or loses their hardware for the tach brackets, please just shoot a PM or email.

And if you want to buy a couple of an item for people in a local area, just let me know, and I'll box it all together to try and save a buck or two on the shipping.  Heck, buy a bunch and I'll knock a little off the price (but not much, because to be blunt, there isn't a huge markup on these items).
