Ok guys, The project is getting closer. I was told last night by my fabracator to be ready to order the front alerkation kit with in the next two to three weeks. My question of the day is, with all this new found room I will have up front what kind of header can I now use? Will a header from a B or E body fit? We have cut the inner fenders out so all I have to contend with is the down bars from the fire wall to the front frame.
The engine we arre transplanting is is a blown 440 (BDS 6-71), its a mild build estimated hp around 750. I have been told I need at least a 2 1/8" tube header and a 2 1/4" would be better. This engine is not mine it belonges to my fabracator who is also a good friend. I have a 440 plans in the works that will have the 8-71 blower and hope to be in the 1000 to 1200 hp range sometime in the future (1-2 year plan)
Any help? ideas? suggestions? On a last note I have a set of flowmaster 40's I will be running at the end of 18" long collectors when I dare to drive the beast on the street. and will play around with collector lengths and open exhaust at the track. I have found 18" long collectors to work best for me with my old 496 stroker.

The solution is simple.....if this guy is any kind of fabricator at all and is used to working in round tube like the big boys and not the rectangle and square stuff like the " simps " use, have him fab up a set of headers out of 1 1/4 308SS

We have not ruled that out but at 40 bucks an hour and guessing about the length of tube to use ect, and the research header manufacturers put into their products I think it would be wise and cheeper to buy a good set from a known manufacturer.
I had a set of hooker super comps on my dart that were fender well headers. I am just fishing around looking and weighing all of my options. I think TTI has a set of 2 1/8" tube for the "A" body.
Most "A" body headers I have used or seen are tight and usually have made comprimises just to make them fit the tight engine bay when a big block is shoe horned in.
Do you know of any header manufacturers who are cashing in on the alterkation advantage of gaining room in a "A" body car? or any other mopar.
I can see a big advantage here for someone to design a good free flowing nice fitting set of headers to compliment the Alterkation design.

"headers by ed" can size them for your fab guy to build. he did mine for me. buy his media kit. he will also supply all the parts. he built custom flanges to match the head ports and special collectors. mine are 2 3/8" for 6", 2 1/2" for 6", 2 5/8" for 28" to the 5" collecto,r dyno max mufflers and a semi turn out. oh, and i fabed them and had everything coated.

TTI is the way to go. They make a set for the B,E, and A body......2 inch or 2-1/8th...not sure about 2-1/4 though. 2 inch is what I had on my Duster with the AlterKtion and I had tons of room.

I also like the TTI's but I am being told I will need more with a huffer.
Hey bOb do you have any pictures of the headers by ed or any pictures in the gallery? You posted a blower for sale a few weeks back but it had more of a huff than my motor will puff, I think the 8-71 will be plenty for my use. any advice or help from a blower runner will be appreciated.
I am several months away from headers but

http://www.stahlheaders.com/Frame%20New%20Drag.htmStahl makes a good kit that has about the right down length, you can get them in 2.125 tube's and they take a lot of the fab time out of the job. Worth the money I think. I have use them several times. OldSkool

I guess each to his own. But for a custom large tube, well fabricated kit, I don't think $400.00 is unreasonable. Especialy since there are really no other options for good Mopar A Body race headers running big inch motors. I think the gentelman who ask the question was running a blown motor. I would hate to put a set of Headmans on a blown motor.

Old Skool since you have used theseIi have a ? I have removed my inner fenders have an Alterketion so I have also cut off the upper shock mount do you think that the Stahl Pro Gas Kit for A-arm car will work? I had thought about going with Sthals but $450.for a kit is better than $1200. for A-Body/BB set.

Seems to me, there are a couple members right here on this site who have the skill to make whatever headers you need.

Well if I can fit 2 1/4" headers in my little Valiant with a stock K member and B1 heads I see no reason you cant use 2 1/4" headers with an alterkation.

B1, what brand of header (2.25") are you using?
My original search started out looking for a clean set of headers to complement the clean look of the alterkation, To tell the truth I am building a show car that will take a few 1/8 mile passes two to three times a year but will be in two to three car shows and cruise-ins a month. I think this is a great bussiness opening for someone to fabricate and sell a set of headers that did not look like a pretzel avoiding things like torsion bars and K members that no longer exist. hint hint hint to some of you creative ones out there. I am amazed tti or some other header manufacturer has not cashed in on this and start offering a header with less bends to go with the alterk.
As it stands right now I am looking at a set of pro type headers for an "A" arm car OR a set of zoomies with a fabricated "box" that fits over the ends and is secured with two springs. Out of the box I will go thru a set of flowmasters yes it will leak at the box and yes it will be loud I saw a car done like this when I was a kid and have never forgot it. very different. pop the springs, tri-clamp the exhaust pipe and open zoomies around the car show.

Mine are custom built pieces for the car. And IMO you will need to have a set custom built for you as well. NONE of the shelf headers will do what you are asking. Dont even try to use a tube chassis type header as they will not work without modification. If you want a clean header you will need to have them built for the car.
