Tools for Christmas, Snap Ring Pliers for rebuilding the 727, Advice?
« on: November 11, 2007, 09:46:38 AM »

Alright, I was asked the other day what I wanted for Christmas. As usual I had no idea, I started thinking about it and since I am going to be rebuilding my 727 over the winter months I could use some new snap ring pliers. I have only helped with a coulple of rebuilds on the 727s (luckily those guys will be helping me). Any special tools I should be aware of before I tare down my transmission?

Add an inch pound torque wrench to your list.

Boy, that looks like a special piece and pricey!   Try an OTC # 7024, much smaller, much more cost affective unless, you were rebuilding transmissions every day.  I use my OTC to compress the springs in the clutch packs on all the 727's I rebuild and it works great!
You could make a slide hammer for pulling the front pump out of the case with all thread, some nuts, large washers and like a wrist pin from a larger engine if you might have access to one or any type of weighted hollow item you might have. As well, you need both a #2 phillips and a flat blade screwdriver that are sockets, 3/8" or 1/4" drive so they will fit your inch pound torque wrench. Bushing drivers if you are going to replace any of the bushings inside of it. One last thing I can think of, an 8 point socket to fit the band adjuster screws.

Thay are quite simple to rebuild, you definatly need a service manual, a quality rebuild kit and lots of cleanliness!
