Will the backing plate on a 7 1/4 rear fit a 8 3/4 rear?
Thanks 5258

The project I'm working on is relocating the springs and swapping out the 7 1/4 for a 8/34 in my 69 dart. I really didn't want to get into the brakes at this time and wanted to wrap up the rear swap first, I thought I saw a post in the past were someone said he had swapped rears and just kept his intire backing plate and drums in tact and just swapped it to the 8 3/4.
Maybe it was just wishfull thinking.

Doug 371,
Don't laugh to loud. Can that botton bolt hole be drilled out and if so will the 9in backing plate fit on the a body 8 3/4. Really don't want to swap out brakes unless its a last resort.
Thanks 5258

Yes, I believe the four bolts are in the right place, but not 100% positive. Drill the bottom hole and see....

My current set up is 9in drums, My question is can I change out the rears w/o disconnecting the brakes, I really, really don't want to get into the brakes yet. Can I just remove the 7 1/4 axles pull them, leave the brake hard ware on the backing plate, drill the bottom hole in the 9in backing plate and then assy to the 8 3/4? Will it work?
Thanks 5258

I believe it will, but you'll know for sure when you try it.
