« on: November 20, 2007, 07:00:37 PM »

Ive heard that they make a valley pan gasket with a block off. Someone else said they make plugs, and another person said Jib Weld?  What is the CORRECT way to block it?? hammer

Use "Rutland" black furnace cement. Fill the passage in the head completely and shape the bowl area before it hardens. I think I bought the last can at Ace Hardware. This contains a lot of iron particles and will not burn out.  For a while you could not buy small amounts, only drums full.

old school solution:

we filled it the gap under the manifold with rolled and wadded up alum foil.  didnt last forever but  then again, we weren't planning for living forever.

it did however seem to make a difference

Bought one recently from Chrysler - it was advertised as an intake gasket with exhaust crossover blocks (for a 440). I went and picked it up, looked good in a nice mopar box and all but I was incredibly dissapointed when I opened it up and it contained a stock gasket with the holes, and 2 pieces of sheet metal aprox 3/4" by 2" to be glued, I assume, over the passages. To top it all off the 2 pieces were at least 2 to 3 times thicker than the gasket. It didnt look like the hot set up to me. I ended up cutting a couple pieces of thin stainless and siliconing them over the passages.

I dont recomend the Chrysler gasket, but I do believe there is a fel pro one (or perhaps someone else makes it) that has the passages blocked.

I know for a fact that fel pro makes a performance intake gasket for small blocks with the passages blocked and a nice raised silicone bead around the intake port & coolant holes.

I have a Felpro valley pan for my RB that blocks the crossover. Seams like the easiest way.

Yep, I use the fel-pro on my 400.  You have to look in their performance section, not in the standard listings.

It looks like most of the big block aftermarket intakes dont have the cross over in them. My M1 or torker dont have them.

Fel-Pro  p/n 1215 has the heat crossover blocked without the use of plate. It's just the bathtub. You get 4 paper gaskets w/ this p/n also.  I did not use them. RB.

Love to find some for a B, but no luck so far. Only an issue for me when running the single plane, the tunnel ram doesn't have the passages thankfully.

I used to take a dremel and grind a step around the crossover opening on the manifold.  Put a piece or .060" aluminum in there with red rtv and forget about it.

1214 is the B version. I just got the # off one in my garage off my busted 383.

I always have my intake crossover's welded up. My welder buddy charges me $25. bucks and I never worry about it again.  Ron
