Has anybody seen the hot rod deluxe premiere issue with the 65 (i think) dart altered wheelbase tech project. It looks so good. It is now on my to do list.

I need to find the pics of one an old friend had back in the 80s. He built some interesting customs. I don't know what happened to him, though.

Check out funnycarfarm.com They have a DVD for sale for $20 that is 90 minutes video which is mostly documenting the transformation of a stock 63 Dart to an AWB funny car. It is the same car that is in the Hot Rod Deluxe mag. I got the video and it is extremely cool info for anyone even remotely considering doing it to their car. It is worth the money for the entertainment value if nothing else.

Here's a couple of pics. Both of these cars were built by the same guy. This car isn't an altered wheelbase, but the back window has been altered with the base moved forward to fit the flip top gas cap.

It was done to effectively add weight to the rear of the car and reduce weight on the front. It also made wheelstands easier. While there are other ways to accomplish the same thing, this was done in the 60s and worked well for the time. Now it's more of a nostalgia thing, but then again that what this hobby is....

The white dart..... It's interesting. If I'm correct only the 64 dart came with the large stripe on the side like that. But that's a 63 dart grill. I like it. then on the door and the fender there are 3 moldings. I don't see those on darts very often I do remember seeing them on a dart charger If your familiar with what I'm talking about. It was an old dart but they called it the dart charger. Cool blend of different parts. It makes me want to go get a '63 grill and keep it so I can put it on my car every now and then.
And about that other 65-66 dart.... Ummm.... I like the whole altered wheelbase thing and even considered doing it to my car but that things ugly. I like the one in the new hot rod deluxe a lot better

The white car is a 64 with 63 grille and 65 Dart GT (which the Charger was) lower mouldings. The 66 needs more "stance" with more meat out back and to lose the whitewalls. Some different wheels would help, too. The car was the guy's wife's driver at the time. Bear in mind the pic was taken in 1987 as was the second pic of the 64. The first pic of the 64 was taken in 84 or 85.

I got the deluxe hot rod magazine and I saw it really very cool. Liked it a lot and is, by far and large the best article on how to make an AWB I ever saw.

Did ya notice the Challenger hood scoops on the white '64 above ? I'm thinkin' the guy followed the song about the Cadillac in his build, you know "Its a '49, '50'51' etc " picked it up at the factory one piece at a time.

Bill (the guy who built the altered 66 and the 64 with the 'Cuda scoops) is an artist. I knew him pretty well back in the 80s, but I lost touch with a lot of people during the early 90s due to life circumstances so I don't know what he's doing now. Every time I saw that Dart I saw something I hadn't seen before.
