Its hard to tell from the pic, but 331's came in two diferrent bellhousing configurations. Early ones like that are more difficult to adapt a decent transmission to.

Your right but the 51-53 blocks with cast on upper bell housing, do now have an adapter, ya cut the bell off of a 904[just like your installing a sfi bell] then bolt the adapter to the [or thru the pump bolts] Hot heads makes it. gonna be trying one on a AMC torqueflite behind 331 in a 51 Cranbrook.
