Found an old cam in the garage. It appears to be an old purple shaft cam. There are no numbers on it, however there is a casting # SCH 58. I tried using a mic,which I know is inaccurate, it comes up .465. I dont want to install it to check it. Any ideas??

I think that the smallest Direct Connection Purple Shaft cam made, was the .484 284 duration camshaft. If you are using 1.50 rocker arms, then a .484 cam would come out to .323" lift at the cam lobe.

The way you mearure a cam's lift is 90 degrees away from the lobe, then across the lobe, subtract the two, that's your lift. Multiply that by 1.5 and you get advertised lift. Duration can be done too, but you need a degree wheel and dial micrometer. You have to measure from .050, bolt the degree wheel to the cam and set up a pointer. Make a mark from each way at .050 lift. count how many degrees between the two. Its pretty hard to get an accurate total duration.
