so how about this rear end???
« on: February 16, 2006, 01:06:49 AM »

I am sitting here, trying to figure out how to run at least 9 inch wide tires, without coming through these here fender skirts. I am planning on going to a 8.75 rear end. is there anything that is going to save me work and bolt into place? or am i looking at prolly chopping an axle down a bit. thanks.

What I wound up doing on my 66 was moving the springs in 3/4" with the mopar kit(pretty easy), putting the rim/tire in the wheelwell where I wanted it, measuring flange to flange on the inside of the wheels and having the 8-3/4 rear narrowed. I had to buy custom axles, but now I can fit at least a 9" wide tire in the stock wheelwell.  duster

An a-body 8-3/4 will bolt in just fine, but you may have to move the spring inboard for tire clearance. Then just figure out the correct offset on the wheels.
