Topic: Tires, how wide ? (Read 427 times)

It appears that if I mini-tub my fastback 69 'cuda, I'll open a can of worms with regard to the interior panels. Don't want to spend the extra time modding and fabbing new panels to fit inside the interior.
If I just move the springs in to the frame rails, how wide of tire will I be able to fit in the wheel well? I'm hoping for around 11-12 inches. You guys think this is do-able?

My tires measure 11.5. Now I got that by laying the tire on the ground and putting a straight edge on the other side.

I've got a '69 coupe with the springs inboarded and the wheeltubs stretched. Still looks stock. I think I can get the M&H 390/17 tire in there.

Thanks for the responses you guys. I was planning on mini-tubbing until I realized the problem I'd have with the interior panels. It sounds like I'll have no problem getting 11" tires under there, which I'd be perfectly happy with. Thanks again...

I had a 69 fastback with 265/50-15 they tucked with stock ride height and no mods were needed. Unfortunately I sold the car and have no info on the rims or their offset. They were Centerline clones and came with the car when I bought it. I did have to replace the rear axle as the dummy had installed an F body rear axle and had 275/60-15's on it with rear leaf shackles to get the tires to clear as the axle was the wrong width. I replaced it with an 8 1/4 from an A -body and everything tucked. I just didn't like the height of the 275's and I wanted more tread on the ground which I got with the 265's. The reduced tire height also made it leave like it was on a mission instead of being so lazy off the line. All with 3.21 gears.
