The point of the Laquer is that it is very low odor, its good for do-it-yourselfers also. The issue with Urethanes is that they stink up the whole neigborhood and are very toxic, Laquers (new type) are very safe, since they are reduced with acetone, which evaporates down, not up, so there is minimal smell associated with it. Another thing, for novices, you dont have to worry about recoat windows, you can stop and restart anytime, and it involes no mixing and ratios. For me, it was the fact that I wanted somethign a little tougher, which is why I went with a BC/CC Urethane system, now I just have to worry about getting evicted for painting it in my garage.

I decided to paint the red stripe on my car, so yesterday I picked up a pint of 2008 Viper Red, I am probably going to use the same color for the dash and inside door panels.

I finished stripping the door last night (I helps to have the right tools). I was stripping everything back wherever I saw that cheap tan Bondo, I used a stripper wheel. I started with a 7" wheel in my 19.2V drill, but I kep killing batteries and spent several days charging. I got frustrated yesterday and went down to Harbor Freight and picked up a 4" stripper wheel that fit my Grinder, I got the door done in about 20 minutes.

I found 15 holes, not just little screw holes, but monster size 1/4" holes. This morning I welded up the holes and spent about 2 hours trying to hammer the panels flat. #$%@^&! That was frustrating as hell. I have to admit that a hammer hits were done out of anger, rather than neccesity. :angry8:

I finally layed down a layer of good filler, I will start sanding it down tonight.

Are you kidding me...a homemade filter system using a cardboard box??  You flippin' rock, dude. I believe the saying goes, "necessity is the mother of invention" and you're the epitome.  If I was your landlord I'd kiss your @ss for doing such great work and rescuing a classic I don't see any characters taking their hat off so this guy  Hug will have to suffice.

Great looking work you can tell it is a labor of love. When your done you will be able to look at the car and say I did it and be darn proud of it. I am in same position doing my son's 73 swinger. For me it is a labor of love and satisfaction of haveing him drive a  muscle car rather than a 4cyl. buzz bomb. looks good keep the pics comin.

Update.

I got the door fixed, and I sprayed on a little more Featherfill on a few panels that had a few low spots on them, I have to block those panels again, but the rest of the car is ready for epoxy primer. I didn't like spraying the doors flat, so I installed a few bicycle hooks in the studs and hung the doors up on the wall.

I finished up the last of the block sanding last wekend, the driver's door that gave me all that trouble came out pretty straight. The bottom charcter line come out ultra straight, the middle crease was a little soft, the top line came out flat too. I sprayed a little more Featherfill along the middle crease, I will sand it again tomorrow, it should come out perfect.

Some days you get a lot done, some days you don't, today was a good day.

Today I had Sam come over and help me start putting the body back together. We got the doors back on, the hood on, and finished up installing the bushing kit in the hinges. Let me tell you, those bushing kits are worth every penny of the $15 they cost! The doors open smoothly and have no droop, creaks, or squeaks.  Cheers If you have not done it yet, do it! This also marks the first time the doors have been back on since May of 2007. Its starting to look like a real car again!  !nanr

Of course, I had to put the Hemi scoop on the hood, just for a little motivation.  Grin

This morning I did a little mock up work on the engine, bolting things together and making sure they will work. I ran into a few issues, the dipstick tube was cracked at the bottom, of course, me being a cheap-ass, I fired up the welder, welded the cracked part, then put it to the grinder. Good as new.  Grin I noticed that the chrome Mopar timing cover I bought absolutely disappears behind the damper and water pump housing.  Dunno Oh well.

I also have issues with the stock throttle cable bracket and trans kick down. The RPM intake is so much taller than the stock intake, that the bracket is almost 2 inches shorter than it needs to line up with the Demon carb. I will need to cut it apart, make some extensions, then weld it back together. Another issue was that I replaced the stock rod style trans kick down with a Lokar cable style kickdown, this is completely different, I need to weld on a new bracket for this to work. The stock on-intake coil location will not work with the new Demon carb, the bowl hits the coil, I guess I will have to mount it on the fender. This why its a good idea to mock things up before you drop the engine in.

Also on the list of things I did today, I finished assembling the sandblast cabinet and fired it up with glass bead, I proceded to blast my RPM intake (it was painted blue), it now looks like a brand new cast intake.  Smiley

wow very nice flyboy. When you get this all done I'm willing to bet the car won't be parked anywhere other then a car show or your garage out of pure paranoia from the work you've put into the car. You know what I'm talking about and I won't say the words because I'm superstitious and I'll just say you should see the doors and bedsides of my 98  Frustrated ignorant people suck...

My 95 Dakota had a custom all black paint job, I drove it everywhere, and it got dinged a few times. I usually gave back to a-hole that did it. I got to be that my ignition key hardly fit in the cylinder anymore, it had so much paint caked on the end of it.  Evil
