1) Turn off the Caps lock...its makes posts hard to read. 2) Spend a few hours on the archives or tech pages - tons of great info. 3) Ask away, the site is full of good fellas and gals. 4) Welcome!!!
oh yeah, 440 in an Abody, no problem but there are some tips to make it smooth. Why an engine plate?

You can buy a motor plate from Mancini Racing that is designed to put a big block into an A body. You can also buy big block A body headers from Mancini Racing as well as most anything else you need.

They came from the factory with 440s, so how hard can it be? I'm trying to fit a 500CID Cad motor into a '62 Deville, and that sux. Who would have thought a Cadillac didn't have enough room to fit a Cadillac engine and transmission? The 440 A-body is much easier. Helped put together two of them, and I'm working on my own now, if I could get this Caddy out of the way.

A-bodies since 1978, this one since 1983

It's actually fairly simple. I would avoid the motor plate unless this is a race-only car. Spend some time in the tech pages for alternatives.

Schumaker and TTI make it relatively easy, but you will need to convert to manual steering and a beefier set of torsion bars.

Yeah for a street car you really don't want a motor plate.

Hey , Flyboy ,,,, ,,but what's wrong with power steering for the street / & occasional strip abuse I enjoy the hell out of it in my 72-440 Scamp w/ TTI headers & Schumacher mounts ! I can see daylight between headers & p.s. gearbox ( but if they were chrome maybe not ! ) Seems to be the tightest thing on that ole girl ! You start my 95 Stratus on these cold Illinois mornings & the p.s. pump screams like a cat in a meatgrinder ( I'd put a pump like my Scamp has on it but I can't even see the pumpin the Stratus!!) After 2 shoulder surgeries & could use another one --this old guy kinda likes power steering ,,,is there something I need to know about it _? __Thanks --Tom P.S.--Mopar 70 you can do this ---The ground work has been covered --What Schumacher hasn't thought of the braintrust of has !!!

Power steering doesn't fit with some headers. The other problem most of us have had ofter with power steering in these cars is LEAKS. That's the biggest reason the first big block a-bodies we built had manual steering. My Barracuda will retain the power steering, though, and we plan to add it to my son's Dart convertible.

Jeff, Sorry man---I was assuming --- I should know by now to "assume" is to make an ass out of u & me ! The guy I bought the car from thought they were TTI's but after closer inspection I think they're Shumacher's Tri-Ys . For some reason I thought TTI made those Tri-Ys for Shumacher but can't find proof now--must have"ass-u-med" it! Headers have the 2-bolt oem type collector . If I were to open em up I would surely boil tranny fluid in the lines they would dump on !!! The previos owner did say he installed 440 w/headers & 727 bolted up with standard motor hoist w/ leveler !!! He used Schumacher's mount & torque strap so probably the headers too !!! Sorry about the confusion --- just got excited & was trying to help w/my 2 cents --Mopar Tom

Just a note on the power steering issue... it's not all about space. You can also eliminate consider weight by going to manual. That along w/ an aluminum intake and water pump housing and moving the battery to the trunk made for a significant weight savings on mine. Weight is not only important for the strip... as much as these things tend to be front heavy, it can ride better on the street by reducing the nose weight.

That looks great. Have a 68' as well, but she's taking alittle longer than expected to put together.
