I'm the one with the metal flakes in the oil after 6 changes... Well I did some investigating and found the cause... You'll never guess, so I had to tell you. the ding bat who powder coated my engine, did it after the engine was fully assembled, minus intake and exhaust, then baked it! Didn't tell me he did it this way, I had to figure out what the hell could have happened and asked! Apparently the baking process burned off all the assembly lube and the motor was toast from the first crank~!~ !~!!!! I am Now I don't know if I should trust him to do it again or just go somewhere else !!! If ya want something done right ya gotta do it yer self! Betcha never would have guessed!!! Bob

A powdercoat oven gets HOT !! it's close to 400 degrees !!! man that sux ! but why did the powder coater have a complete engine ? I had my Harley cyllinders powdercoated before I had them bored. That heat is No good for oil on machined surfaces. Man that sux That powdercoater should have told you he was going to cook your motor in a flippin oven to cure the stupid powder , what a effin dumbass ! did you bring him a complete motor or did he assemble it too ? maybe he built it wrong as well ?

Umm...my question is...why on earth would you give an assembled engine to a powder coater? All powder coating is baked on, if you gave him a complete engine, its your fault. If he is not an engine builder, then there is no chance in hell you are ever going to get any money back. Sorry, but its not his fault.

yeah I gotta agree with flyboy. if you gave him a complete engine to powdercoat the assembly lube baking off is your own fault.

400 degrees sent all of the assembly lube right into the oil pan. Baked all the gaskets and sealers pretty well too. I get worried if the temp gauge goes over 200 degrees on an engine.

Yeah, that motor is probably smoked. That temperature would have taken out gaskets and seals. Sorry for your troubles.

Goof and Goofier today on Trucks! said, '... that the common mistake folks make is that powder coating is done at 400 degrees. The coating starts to flow when the metal is at 400 degrees...' If that's true, for a block and haeds, assembled, that's quite hot. Any rubber seal could easily be damagedfrom that. Open valves won't hurt it, nor would the heads being open unless they sprayed the powder in the holes... sorry, I forgot the intelligence ratio wasn't that high at this particular shop. I feel for ya, believe me I do. I like the 'pay through the nose or bleed through it' scenario.
