$28 bucks complete with shipping ....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVERSAL-7-INCH-ROUND-H6024-PROJECTOR-HEADLIGHTS-H4_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33717QQihZ005QQitemZ150197667833QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

PS I highly reccomend using a relay with these headlights ... use the old wires for the relay coil and a new run with circuit breaker to the battery

Do not use the bulbs they come with unless you want the ricer blue look

I'm still not sold on the bulb replacement HID's, I truly believe that the housing, lens AND bulb should be of an HID design from the start.  Knowing nothing about this, I'm just relying on basic engineering.
I'm all for the bulb conversion, it certainly would simplify things.  BTW, would it be possible for anyone who knows how to wire-up a relay give me a 3rd grader lesson? Thx

here is a diargram of how to wire a relay.  this is the common bosch realy that can be had at any auto parts store.  There are sockets available as well or ...  try this link

 http://cgi.ebay.com/5-PACK-12V-DC-30A-40A-Bosch-Style-Relay-Socket-SPDT_W0QQitemZ190185061308QQihZ009QQcategoryZ50552QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD10VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m127

The only thing to add would be a fuse or cuircuit breaker between the battery and # 30 terminal on the relay.  20 amp will be fine, you should also use 12 gauge wire for the leads from the battery to the relys and 14 gauge from the realys to the headlights.  the rest of the wiring can be as small as 16 gauge or 18 gauge.

and this makes the lights brighter? and if so by how much?

Not sure if you can take away that orange  glow of the stock headlights like this.

the relays will make the headlights brighter, they are not designed to eliminate the orange glow ,but they will be brigther if they get the proper voltage. ... I didn't get my lumen meter out to check but in my 68  it was noticeibly brighter, then again I have halogen bulbs installed .    The factory headlights use at best 16 guage wire to run both headlight filaments on low beam and the  same size wire to run 2 filaments on high beam, this is all though a little spade connector in the firewalll bulkhead.   Oh yea the power for the headlights and the WHOLE rest of the car comes in via the alternator, and all that power comes in through the same size spade conenctor in the frewall.   Those firewall conenctors are a coomon problem on any old mopar.  I always bypass the aternator and battery feeds, until you do it you will not believe the difference.

I'm converting my wiring right now to newer stuff. i won't see a huge difference until i get it all wired up and see what my H4's really look like

The bulbs should be 55W; that's the standard for halogens. Anything above that is definitely illegal and will be too bright, not to mention it would put a good deal of strain on the wiring without relays and generate more heat (the cheaper housings WILL melt from the heat of higher wattage bulbs). Another good reason to run relays is to save your headlight switch, since the headlight circuit on older cars is not fused.  Wink

Ok here is all the info that people have asked for.

Watts it pulls
Low 55; High 60

The bulbs run about 20 bucks each i got them cheaper by going through ebay.

I have no relay hooked up at all. People do trip on my headlamps as by how clear they are i can't remember where i got my lamp housing at i have it written down at home i knwo i got them online for about 40 bucks for both. so all in all this converison which some may think is expensive ran me under 80 bucks easy.

I don't have teh best headlamp housing's out there but they do just as good i knwo i can get the motorcycle ones and slap them on my car with ease but i'm sorry i don't feel liek spending $100+ for one lamp.

Ummm i think i answered everything? If nto just ask!

......If your lights r only getting 11.5 volts u r loosing 30% of ur lighting, older the vehical, the more the loss thru resistance, that is y u need relays to bring the power back to 13.5-14.2......1994-2002 dodge trucks have piss poor lights, hook up a relay and u would swear its not the same truck......kim.........

Hey guys, I'm doing an HID conversion on my 68 Charger as we speak.  Don't let anybody mis-lead you - HID conversions are actually very affordable nowadays.  I bought a nice set of 9007 headlight housings off Ebay - cost about $70 for 2 ( I bought 2 sets)  You can also get the more common H4 housings - the housngs are all direct replacements for the old sealed beam halogens.

As far as the actual HID bulbs and ballasts, you can get them shipped for less than $100 bucks off Ebay.  They are complete kits with bulbs and ballasts and pigtails to connect to your wiring harness.  You just pick the bulb style (H4, 9007, etc) and the HID bulb will fit directly into the housing without modification.  It all connects to the factory wiring harness with either an adapter of you can splice it.

With an A-body, you just need 1 kit for the 2 headlights.  They offer H4 HID conversions that also let you retain the high beams (they call them Hi/lows - you have to search around).  Now with my Charger, 4 headlight system, I bought 2 sets of HID bulds and ballasts.  I'm just connecting them to the original high/low wires from the harness, and when I turn the highs on, all 4 heads will be illuminated using HIDs - way brighter than stock highs.

I'm going to set up realys regardless, so I'm not worrying about upgrading the plugs because I'll have already modified it.  But HID's actuall draw less than the halogens and will probably be fine with the factory harness - although I would recommend upgradong with relays to get the most of the new lights.  Either way it wil be bright as hel!.

For a 2 headlight system, you don't need to spend more than about $150 for the HID conversion bulbs, ballasts, and conversion headlight housings.  Here's what I bought for the Charger - a little more expensive, but the headlight housings are really good quality:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=170162253326
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=320084369099

This is a super easy conversion and makes a HUGE difference in appearance and actual ability to see at night.  By the way, you can choose different color temperatures so they don't have to be that bright blue "ricey" look - you can get bright white (5000k temp bulbs).

Although I don't have it installed on the car yet, I have the bulbs in the grill and I can power them up if anybody wants to see pics of the progress of my Charger conversion.  Just let me know and I'll take pics.

Yeah, they are a little pricey, but they're nice quality.  Sometime those less expensive ones are real junk - I've bought these types of conversions for a few different cars so far and have run across some real crap.  I wanted something that didn't look cheap in the Charger.

Here are some pics.  I'm rstoring my grill, so It's going to be re-painted and I also have new stainless trim, so it'll look much better than this when all is said and done.  As I said before, you can do this conversion for probably around $150 for the 2 headlight systems.

you would be AMAZED at the difference that using relays fo the headlights makes, especially if you remove the stock ampmeter gauge/wiring and install a volt meter.  ALL of the charging/use current for your car has to go through a spade conenctor @the firewall and then through the ampmeter and then to the fuse block, then back to the battery to recharge it from starting.  I do the mod on all of my old mopars and the lights never dim at a stop sign anymore...

agree 100%. I've done this to all my past cars before all these conversion kits were available. Painless and Daniel Stern sell kits for this and it's much cheaper than a conversion. If you're bucks down, it's a great start.
