11" brakes
« on: January 09, 2008, 07:17:27 PM »

Here are some more brake questions. Since I am changing out my front brakes to disc and the rear brakes due to rearend upgrade ( 7 1/4 to 8 3/4), would it be of any sense to put 11 x 2.5 brakes on the back? I am leaning toward 11" in the front since I am putting the BB in. I will also be putting in the 4.5 axles. The current brakes I have are 9" manual which I thought was different since it has the small V8 in it. I just don't want to overkill the brakes since the front is doing most of the work anyway. So any thoughts on this would be great in helping me make the best choice.  Dunno

11 or 10, whatever you can find. My sons' cars both have 11" brakes, but you can tell most of the braking is done by the front. I probably won't bother with 11s on the Barracuda when I get it built.

Just a reminder, if your looking for rear brake assy in the junk yard, you can find
both 10" & 11" on many of the vans up into the 1990's.

Sometimes a little harder to disassemble since they have something like a "C" clip
retaining the axels in amongst the gears on those 9-1/4 rears.

Thanks, Guys for your input. It has got me to thinking a little more. It seems that the 11" are a lot easier to find than the 10". I have run across a couple of sets from Cudas that are OEM and I will be checking those out a little closer. Thanks, again. Greg

Actually the 10" are generally easier to find. The only reason my sons' cars have the 11" brakes is that one set came with the rear end I got my axles to shorten from and the other set came from a parts car that was given to me.

I have only come across one set ( 10" ) so far that were even worth looking at and they were in fair condition. I won't rush into getting a set of brakes but I would like to get the rearend area squared away before I move on.

The 10" drums are almost half the cost of the 11" drums. I have both 10s and 11s. I dodn't think I am going to bother with the 11s in the rear.
