WD-40

 WD-40

A neighbour bought a new pickup, and got up very early one Sunday morning to
find that someone had spray painted red all around the sides of his beige truck
(for some unknown reason).  He was very upset and was trying to figure out what
to do, probably nothing until Monday morning since nothing was open.  Another
neighbour came out and told him to get his WD-40 and clean it off.  It removed
the unwanted paint beautifully and did not harm his paint job that was on the
truck.  We all were impressed.  WD-40, who knew?

Water Displacement #40:  The product began from a search for a rust
preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts.  WD-40 was created
in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company.  Its
name comes from the project that was to find a "water displacement" compound.
They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40.  The Corvair
Company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts.  Ken East (one
of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you.

When you read the "shower door" part, try it.  It is the first thing that has
ever cleaned that spotty shower door.  If yours is plastic, it works just as
well as on glass.  It is a miracle!  Then try it on your stove top.  Voila!
It's now shinier than it's ever been. You'll be amazed.

Here are some of the uses:

1)  It protects silver from tarnishing.

2)  It removes road tar and grime from cars.

3)  Cleans and lubricates guitar strings.

4)  It gives floors that 'just waxed' sheen without making it slippery.

5)  Keeps flies off cows.

6)  It restores and cleans chalkboards.

7)  It removes lipstick stains.

Cool  It loosens stubborn zippers.

9)  It untangles jewelry chains.

10)  It removes stains from stainless steel sinks.

11)  It removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill.

12)  It keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidising.

13)  It removes tomato stains from clothing.

14)  It keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.

15)  It camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors.

16)  It keeps scissors working smoothly.

17)  It lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes

18)  It removes tar and black scuff marks from the kitchen floor!  It does not
seem to harm the finish and you will not have to scrub nearly as hard to get
them off.  Just remember to open some windows if you have many marks.

19)  Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly!  Use
WD-40!

20)  WD40 gives a children's play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.

21)  It lubricates gearshift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on
riding mowers.

22)  WD40 rids kids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises.

23)  It lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to
open.

24)  Spraying an umbrella stem with WD40 makes it easier to open and close.

25)  WD40 restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well as
vinyl bumpers.

26)  It restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.

27)  It lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans.

28)  It lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, waggons, and bicycles for easy
handling.

29)  WD40 lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running
smoothly.

30)  It keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades and other tools.

31)  It removes splattered grease on stoves.

32)  It keeps bathroom mirror from fogging.

33)  WD40 lubricates prosthetic limbs.

34)  Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).

35)  It removes all traces of duct tape.

36)  Some folks even spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve
arthritis pain.

37)  Florida's favourite use is, "cleans and removes love bugs from grills and
bumpers."

38)  The favourite use in the state of New York:   WD-40 protects the Statue of
Liberty from the elements.

39)  WD-40 attracts fish.  Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you will be
catching the big one in no time.  It is a lot cheaper than the chemical
attractants made for just that purpose.  Keep in mind though that using some
chemical laced baits or lures for fishing is not permitted in some states.

40)  Use it for fire ant bites.  It takes the sting away immediately and stops
the itch.

41)  WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls.  Spray on the mark and wipe
with a clean rag.

42)  Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed and dried
a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-
40 and re wash. Presto! Lipstick is gone!

43)  If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the
moisture and allow the car to start.

44)  Keep a can of WD-40 in the kitchen.  It is good for oven burns or any
other type of burn.  It takes the burned feeling away and heals with NO
scarring.

The basic ingredient of WD40 is FISH OIL.

WD 40 saved me a couple of times.  When I would get the distributor cap wet, just take out the WD 40 remove the distributor cap and spray. Wipe of excess and off I'd go.  It's a great all around product.

I can tell you one thing it isn't good for, and that is lubricating firearms.

Over the years I worked in the gun business I saw many gummed up actions that were the result of wd40. It tends to dry out over time and if you keep applying it, it builds up a sticky gummy varnish that wreaks havoc on small moving parts.

# 35 works like a charm. When the Time Warner Center was turned over to us freshly built, all of the switchgear had duct tape labels all over them. Some of the guys started scraping the glue and ruining the paint. I simply wet all of it with WD 40 and wiped it away.
I also use it on the winter wheels on my truck. The original finish is shot and if I wipe them down with a WD40 rag, they look kinda good for a while.

I would say nay to my guitar as well . As a penetrant it won't touch Kroil !
But,,,I had a buddy come by one day with an industrial adhesive all over his hands . He had been commercially gluing pipe insulation on with it . Like a contact cement or the spray can insulation that won't come off ! We tried everything -Lacquer thinner , mineral spirits , acetone , gasoline , everything we could   think of -nothing touched it,,Hey let's try WD-40,,,soaked his hands with it ,,a few seconds later the adhesive was almost falling off .!! Great stuff !!---Mopar Tom

WD-40 is the best stuff.I had grease on the back of my jacket from work and didn't know it and it got all over the front seat of my beige interior in my Dynasty.I got the WD-40 and sprayed it all over and let it sit for a few seconds and it all came right out without leaving a stain. After the WD-40 a little soap and water and it's as good as new.JEDS67 !nanr !nanr !nanr Cheers Cheers
