I have noticed that blasting the hood (and trunk) makes it very difficult to completely remove the grit for the inner structure. I spent many hours doing that and I would in the future use chemicals rather. some paint stripper to begin with, wash it off with laquer thinners then get some high quality iron/sheetmetal cleaner. Its a mild corrosive that attacks rust and all the nastiness paint striper can't take off. clean it off with laquer thinners again. dont ever use pool/hydrochloric acid... I figured that out the hard way. leaves residue which is very hard to remove and flash rusting is almost instantly after you remove the acid. Hope that helps! Oh yeah after I did my hood and trunk by sandblasting, i did the above method with the doors and other sheetmetal, it works great.

I used  the paint stripper and a couple wire brushes. One big one, like the one that is supposed to be used for cleaning the paint chips off your wood work on the house, and a smaller toothbuush size, for getting into the smaller areas. This made using the "aircraft" paint remover much easier and more effective. Just make sure you use glasses, long sleeved shirts and gloves. OH, and have plenty of water on standby in case it does get on you. Viscious stuff!

I used a paint stripping disk on a 4-inch angle grinder, and a dremel tool with flap disks to get into the tight spots and detail areas on the firewall.  Took me about 9 evenings to get it all down to bare steel so I could weld any rust areas up.
