I would agree. If you do it just put weld on all the spider gears you can. This will make it junk when done.

Key word....he wants a POSI (chevy eh?). I'm going to weld up the spiders on a C body 8.25 to make a zero slip rear. It for the demo derby....it WILL be junk for sure!!

And if $$$$$$$ is a concern, a spool would be cheaper.

me and a friend were at a wrecker 1 time and we found what we assumed to be an a body 8.75 with 3.91 sg...guy wanted $100 so we went halves on it...he wanted the pumkin, i wanted the housing...took it home and pulled it apart and it was all welded up... ...he put it in his car anyway...it was fairly short lived...my part of the deal was fine though

I never understood why the folks on Junk Yard Wars didn't do it more often. I think as long as it isn't stressed, like on dirt or for a very limited use, like one pass, you may get away with it. But as a long term fix... uh, no. I know the chick on Extreme 4X4 did it, but that's her. It wasn't her ride to work. I might do it to something just to prove a point, with something like the Demo Derby car, but not on something I was planning on keeping/replacing.

There is a few guys that I know that did it and ran the snot out of them for a couple years. Not 600 RWHP but behind big blocks that were putting out enough to get them in the 11-12's.

I've done it for a derby car. It lasted several cars. It is a pain but doable. The trick is getting everything aligned. Here are my tips: Get it clean no oil at all. Do not use stick or flux core. Align and tack it. Assemble check alignment. Take it back out and weld the snot out of it. Steve

We had one in our race truck and it broke. We got lucky and it just snapped the welds and didn't get to messy. replaced it with a minispool
