I found the skull of a small rat and the shed of a snake skin under the back seat of a parts car I got from Texas
I guess we know who won the battle.

When I live in the country I always used cooking cloves in my Cuda to keep those furry little rodents  Gangster bat explode from getting in to my cars.I now live in the city and don't have any problems anymore.JEDS67

This has always been a Topic during winter storage of our cars,  I hate the dang things,  I restored a '71 VW several years back and installed a new headliner just befor I put it in staorage , and yes the damn things chewed a hole in the liner and nest there through the season, and when I uncoverd the car a month or so later to start it up, the damn things started scretching
as if I had invaded them!  Frustrated  another thing Not to do, is set out poison pellets.. Bad idea! because they will eat it go take a drink then crawl back into the car where they have been nesting, my case (Rocker panel) and Die and rot and could not get to it to remove....
Yeeeeuuuukkkk!  puke  let me tell ya, they can to stink when they eat that stuff and die..... it took 3 months with the windows left open for the smell to finally go away in my Power Wagon. I couldn't even stand to drive it..... Roll Eyes
someone here suggested using moth balls and that has been working for me.....

Someone on this site told me that speamint oil on cotton balls will keep 'em away.

I need to try that.

I finally got my garage sealed up so they can't get in,,,but they will hang by the doors & sneak in. I can hear them scurrying around,,then I will start settin traps . They love to get in my boat that sits outside --they eat my wiring . I have tried ALL the tried & true methods (except a hungry cat,,that could be worse than mice!)--they Eat the mothballs & urinal cakes--they WILL nest in human hair!!!!  Poison sucks and can kill your pets !! My best method??? plain old mousetrap with peanutbutter !! Be persistant --fine tune your traps - if you catch one --his buddies will eat him !!!--then you know you're on track !! trap em til they is no more! Seal em out --it's all out war --they shall not eat --yer Mopar or no car ------------------------------Mopar Tom

Bill,I know what youmean,,I'm surrounded by cornfields & a river . The river has been at flood stage twice in the last month & they come out of their holes & try & get inside. Like I said you have to be persistant. I deal with 2 kinds -the little gray house mice & the brown deer mice(with the big ears ) the deer mice are kinda seasonal but the house mice want to move in & they have litters of 12 in like 5 minutes !!!
I've found the old style trap works the best,,the one with the dent in the metal tongue--load it with greasy peanut butter !!! You GOTTA fine tune em to where you can barely set em down before they trip. Then set em along walls where they run , sometimes I set 2 beside each other . I hate bait as 1. it can kill your pets or anything that eats em ,,like hawks & owls ! 2.As much as I hate the little bastards it's really inhumane when they die--your call. I 've had periods of bad luck too,,just remember the best laid plans of mice & men??? It can be fun! When they really piss me off I look forward to checking the traps !! Remember it's all out war --it's retribution for youMopar !!!Good luck --Mopar Tom ("Mouseslayer")

Try eucalyptus branches(found in floral dept. at  puke;Wal-mart or in craft dept.)  Shove them in every nook of your car. They smell fresh to humans, but the critters hate them!!!   And they are safe. Good Luck!

Next thing you know you'll have Koala Bears.  lol

Seriously, I just use plain old mothballs and a sheet of Bounce. It seems to work.

Moth balls dont work. I have had them bild a nest on top of them. I have a trap line around the shop. I use snap traps with peanut butter, I also use glue traps with peanut butter. If they get into your car and nest you need to wast it down in every nook and crany. Or they will follow the trail of urine back into the car.

That might work but what I heard was to get a small dish and a cotton ball and use peppermint oil. I don't think extract will work because it will evaporate.
