Topic: Anyone Using a Toyota Alternator? (Read 486 times)

Is anyone running a toyota alternator with brackets from Magnum HP? Wondering if it has enough output for street duty? How do you figure out how many amps you need? When they list amps of alternators are the listed amps at idle or at speed? I'm running aftermarket gauges, full lighting, dual electric fans, electric fuel pump and a basic radio.

I've got one still new in the box....haven't gotten around to installing it I compared it to a factory mopar alt and it looks like all that is needed is a custom spacer between the top alternator mounting tabs to offset the alternator for belt alignment....at least on my alternator anyway. Mine is for a Toyota Forerunner I think. It is internally regulated and has remote voltage sensing.

What's the output like? I've been looking at reinstalling a single wire GM generic ($90 - 100A) for my RR. Just for the ease of cost and finding one. The imports seemed to be a bit on the expensive side, but I like the less weight part.

...and the Toyota alternator rated for 100A costs...? Internally regulated or external?

Mine is internally regulated with remote voltage sensing capability. I picked it up reman from ebay for $79.00 and then purchased the Toyota (Denso) wiring pigtail for another $10.00 off ebay. I plan on installing it sometime this summer

I have the60 amp alternator from a forerunner and use the Magnum mounting kit. I used the factory brackets but had to do some modification I don't run an electric fan or fuel pump, but had the lights on and flashers blinking. The voltage meter stayed steady at 14-some volts. I'm sure it could take an electric fuel pump and electric fan easily.

Thanks thats what I was hoping to hear, I was at Napa today and had them look up mine, 93 Camry 4-cyl, there's 2, one has a round plug (mine) and one a rectangular, the round one is 80 amps, and the rectangular plug model is 70...I figure 80 should be more than enough for my car.. Ryan
