Stereo wiring question

Hey guys,
first timer here, anyway i'll get straight to the point. I own a 1975 dodge dart swinger and everything in it is awesome . Except the radio, it of course does not have a tape deck, so i can't use a car kit for my cds. I was wondering if anyone knew how or if it was possible to wire a car stereo cd player into this type of car. And maybe why the radio wont come in. Thanks alot guys!

Hey, I'm a newbie also.  I don't think there's a way to update an old radio, no inputs.  Or let's say no easy$ way to do it.  You can hide new radio's anywhere with remote controls.  Or you can get a updated radio that looks old school, jc whitney sells them.  Does the 1975 still use the 2 shaft radio or is it the bigger one chrysler started using in the mid 70's or so?  Oh there's away ebay, nos radio's with a tape pop up.  I bought one a couple months back.

I want to find a way or find out if i can take the old radio out which doesnt work or have a tape deck and put in something newer. As it is i cant listen to anything because the car kit cant connect to it and like i said the radio doesnt come on.

Pretty simple wiring, a power wire, lamp wire, ground and speaker wires.  If it's not working you have to make sure the antenna is grounded, so the part that goes thru the fender has to have a good connection underneath.  Sometimes that's the only ground on a radio is thru the antenna.  Found a diagram on the web show how most mopar radio are installed,  oops little to big got to go shrink the pic first.

Here we go, show how it's bolted in there.  You'll have to get an old style radio with the 2 shafts to fit back in the dash or cut a bigger hole or install the radio in the glove box or under the dash or under the seat etc.

The old radio probably has several broken solder connections internally. It's a common problem. We installed the stereo in my son's Dart behind the glovebox door on a custom panel. There's lots of options, it just depends on what you want to do, including cuttin up the original dash to mount a new CD player.

You will have to splice wires in. It's very easy. It just sucks laying across the floor trying to play with wires.
I have the factory premium AM 8 track stereo and I repaired the factory tweeter/woofer setup. I replaced a couple of capacitors and it is all good now.
I am lucky that all the original wiring harness was never butchered

I bought a nice underdash mount for mine from bestbuy for $18, is like a pod and looks semi-factoryish. (it's a word!) For wiring just run new wires and you should have something like a red which goes to a key on power source, yellow to the battery, black to ground and then the speakers.

I have a Kenwood shaft mounted tape player/CD controller with the changer mounted in the trunk- no cutting of the original dash- when I got my car it didn't have a radio in it so I didn't have to worry about loosing the stock deck. You can still get the Kedwood through Custom Auto Sound (but its expensive!)
