Topic: Rear Disk setup! (Read 1004 times)

Anyone use this type setup yet for rear disk?
I bought the brackets of ebag, lincoln continental rotors,GM calipers and hardware.
Looks like it will work pretty well. Ive got about $300 in the whole setup. I wasnt planning an ebrake,
although, you can use Caddy eldorado calipers if you want them.

Your set-up looks great. I used 1994-98 Jeep Grand Cherokee rear disk brake set-up. It's a direct bolt on (need to enlarge the center bore hole a bit with a die-grinder/dremel). I got my entire set-up for $145.00 shipped to my house. I used the original calipers and rotors as the ones that I got from the salvage yard were like new. That looks like a nice set up. Did you have to do anything different with the proportioning valve?

I have the same set up for my Dart although I have to have special spacers made because I'm still running the OEM axles. (They were modified by Currie to the 5 - 4 1/2" circle but the center register is still A body small. That's where the spacer is needed to make it B body wheel friendly.) The really COOL part is that it does NOT require "Green" bearings and all parts are available at local parts stores every where. Well thought out if uyou ask me. I can hardly wait to get them put on.

No the inside bracket is 1 piece on mine.
I had my axles made with a little smaller center ring for the lincoln rotors.
Now they use standard parts store parts, and fit 15" wheels. I've had steel and welds
on there.

I have the stock one for now. Have to see how it stops. DHas anyone else had to change Pvalve to get it to stop better? Rick |

Huh - you're right. Maybe they changed their brackets? I looked into it years ago and they looked like the one that is posted above (one piece). Either way it uses the same hardware. Good route to go if you want an e-brake. |

It looks like the Ford rear disc set up. I tryed to put on of their backing plate over an 8 1/4 housing end at the JY. It went about a 1/4 on to the housing. It wouldn't have taken much for it to go all the way on. Maybe just take the paint off the housing end.  It looked like it might work. http://www.explorer4x4.com/discswap.html |

Any of these systems with GM calipers don't need green bearings - the calipers are floating so they align regardless. Kits like the wilwood use rigid-mounted calipers, so they need the fixed position bearings.

Looks like a nice setup. But personally I would only use it on a street use only car. After working on a gm metric chassis Pro Truck for just one season and going through 3 pairs of calipers on our race truck and seeing probably 15 more pairs go bad on half a dozen other competitiors race trucks i wouldn't use it on my car, my dart will be road course raced once in a while, driven to the track and driven home and I have no interest in replacing and bleeding brakes before I head home. But non-the-less nice setup and good work.

The GM calipers have really big pistons in them so you have to run super big pistons up front. If you use big pistons in the rear and small pistons up front then the car will spin when you stomp on the brakes. You do NOT want the brake system to be rear biased, it needs to be heavily front biased. (If you don't know how to calculate brake bias is then you shouldn't be Frankensteining your own brake system.)

I have to agree there. When my dart finally gets brakes I'm upgrading to Viper(6 piston calipers) up front and wilwood(4 piston calipers) in the rear |

Some of the multi piston calipers dont work to well when cool.Need to be heated up real good to work efficiantly.Designed for road racing.....

Some but stuff like the Viper calipers are used on the street all the time and the wilwoods are designed for street/race use. |
