I used 20 because I had some already.  I'd say either 18 or 20 gauge.

Cod   I used the skins off a door I had that had burned up.  Made a template of the required section(s) and cut it from the door.

Anything from 18-22 gauge would work.  If you have a torch, anneal it, to make it more pliable and easier to work with.

Thanks for the replies guys.

By annealing it, you mean basically heat it up a bit to make it easier to form?  Excuse my ignorance!!

Yes, heating it up will change the metals memory and make it easier to form.

I had a pair of doors off a scamp that got BBQ'd.  The panels were much easier to form than the non annealed sheet I had laying around.

Don't know if you've seen this, but, maybe it will help a bit.

Thanks Rob.

Yeah I've seen that video before.  It's actually a good tutorial for anyone about to attempt this.

I've finally got one side cut out.  Just trimming it up right now and getting it ready to reinstall.

The only advice I can offer at this point, is if you are using a sawzall for any of the cutting, do yourself a huge favor and get GOOD blades.  I started out using some cheap ones I had in the garage, and I swear I broke 7 blades within 3 minutes of cutting.  I then went and bought some good blades, and I am still on the first one.  Makes life easier.

Oh well.  Back to the garage.  Should take the camera too I guess.
