motor plate question
« on: February 20, 2008, 07:01:57 PM »

Has anyone used the "new"  fancy designed motor plate that Mancini racing is selling. I was thinking about buying one but not sure. Is there enough material at the area where the plate contacts the frame for me to put large diameter holes for the rubber strut rod bushing style mounting as described in the tech. section? I would appreciate pics if available, especially if they show alternator mounting with this new plate. The car in question is my 67 Barracuda w/440 and the plate is the one thats $175 at Mancini. Thanks in advance

If you could post the pic I would appreciate it. I wonder if I could go back to the factory brackets for the alternator, it looks like the top bolt hole into the head clears the plate?

That really looks good, I can see now that I will not be able to use the factory alt. mounting. I cant use the low mount alt. kit because I still have a mech fuel pump, any ideas?

Contact Greg w MagnumHP and buy the Moroso big pulley.  You then can mount a low alt kit.

This will show you how the plate fits on the front of the motor.

Bigtime, that looks great.  You should get one of our billet timing chain covers to fit in there.

Well in that case you're in luck since we have stuff for belt drives as well as belt drive distributors.

Nope, whose belt drive is that?  That idler gear looks like it would be in the way of any TDC pointer.

I'm waaaay behind on keeping the webpage up to date.  I spend all of my free time inventing new products and I don't know much about website work so I just never mess with the webpage.  I've developed 12 new products so far in 2008 and none of them are on the website.  I probably did 30 new items in 2007 and none of them are on the site.  I need to hire some high school web geek to keep my site up to date.

Yes - you can adjust everything w/o taking the motor apart!

well, I've never had to do any adjusting on the timing chain that would require taking the motor apart, unless something bad happened that made me take the engine apart anyways Huh

Not everyone needs it.  It's a tuning tool, and also reduces harmonics more than any other timing system.  If it didn't work, Jesel would be making timing chains, not belts Wink

I got mine from B1Valiant, but there are a couple places selling them.  440Source used to sell them, not sure why they quit.  Mancini carries them http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/mabhebe1.html

Jesel doesn't have a tensioner?  Guess I never paid attention.  I got mine cheap, just need the ATI balancer with the long hub.

Not to mention a chain tends to break when there are 16 valves with 850lbs open banging on them at 8500rpm. Smiley

Jesel does not use a tensioner. I guess when the other companies copied the design they changed how the cam gear was tapered so they had to use a tensioner instead. maybe it was a patent thing.

I checked my PM, wrote you a reply but it bounced because your inbox is full.

I wouldn't mind seeing if I could build a TDC pointer and crank trigger bracket for the Aussie timing belt setup but the placement of that idler gear does look to be a problem.  Once I have a set in my hand I might be able to figure out a solution though.
