Topic: Is anyone using power windows or locks? (Read 288 times)

I'm putting my 72 Duster together and I am seriously considering going with power windows and locks. I was just wondering if anyone else here was using them on an A-body and what kind of problems they may have experienced while doing so.
Also is anyone using actuators? I am thinking about shaving both the handles and locks on the doors as well as the trunk.

I did the doors and trunk lock..........i mocked it before paint (good thing in my case). It's hard to get pics inside the door. The actuator is mounted with an "L" shaped bracket, I got 35lb "poppers" mounted in the jam, welded a threaded fitting inside the jam so the popper could screw into it. The trunk was easier simply cause it was easier to see....
I got a little shave crazy after I had the car media blasted.....drip rails, mirrors, marker lights,door/trunk handles. Since the car will probably be a solid sterling silver with flat black treatments, I may try and use PT cruiser door handles or similar........one step forward....two steps back for me.

I like what you are doing. I am going to install power windos and locks. I just have not gotten to it.

I bought an electric life curved glass power window kit, but my interest faded after getting the door actuators mounted.....so I got rid of the kit. XV has a power window kit out now for Abodies....might be worth checkin out. The electric life kit would have been a lot of work since it was generic

Thanks, what does the popper contact on the door? I am thinking about going definitely with power windows, power locks, shaved handles and locks, and possibly even suiciding the doors. The main reason for suiciding the doors other than the eye catching factor is that I think it would be easier to get in and out of the car since it has a full cage in it. That is if I can fit all that it the doors without interfering with each other.

It just hits the edge of the door, on the inside edge of the doorskin overlap...It doesnt hit with much force, I think the "35lb" is just a number. The door only opens a few inches when it "pops".
You should be able to fit all that stuff in the door. Since it all fits into thin glass street rod doors, you will be fine.

I got the parts from AutoLoc.....they have a showroom local to me. As far as finding info on the net. AutoLoc's kit came with a diagram and a family friend helped me (street rod chassis guy) set this up. Dont buy the cheap-o kits.....as I have been told --Rob
