Very nice work.Where did you get those pins or bars from the front of the scoop to the hood to keep the scoop from flexing or cracking at high speeds.Any info would be a big help.  Moparchop.

I'm only stroked to 483 cid. Remeber, where your engine is at max rpm mine is just getting into its happy place. Guess that's why Ford is back into overhead cam engines. If I remeber right didn't Chrysler experiment with an overhead cam prototype head for the hemi after the Cammer came out?

 they probably scrapped that idea after they realized the Hemi design was already perfect. I wonder if anyone back then  realized ALL topfuelers would be running Hemi style engines now...regardless of brand

I would apreciate it.My 69 coronet with a 6 pak scoop would crack the scoop right down the middle every time I hit 100 mphs.I am going to put a lot of time into this paint job and I would like to know where to get the pins to keep my scoop from spliting .Please help.....

we just used a "Lag" bolt, (round head) and a small piece of galvanized pipe on our scoops, mine's got 2, my dad's has 4, looks good enough for a race car

The hood looks cool as hell Tom, just like the rest of that beautiful Dart. That is another car that I would like to see in person.
BUT! I need to see more pictures of that front motor slingshot too! I love the old school stuff.

3/8" aluminum bar stock from Home Depot


drill and tap for 1/4" X 20


stainless button head allen screw from Home Depot. Install the same size screw and fender washer on top of the hood scoop.

In conclusion the scoop is very rigid

Made the carb to hood seal this weekend. Sandwiched 1/8" thick aluminum plate between the carbs and raised base air cleaners. Moroso seal kit. Tigged on some aluminum clips. Tapered the seal with the sloped hood.







I believe it is now time to weld up the exhaust.

If anyone needs the seal foam, Summit and Jegs sell it. It is Moroso 4" tall and 1.5" wide. A 60" piece will run you $12.

Nice work Tom. Can you bring in a scrap piece of foam if you have any left?  I am wondering if I can utilize my ram air. Finshed my headers today. What a F@%#$ng pain in the ass!!!    People that custom build headers certainly earn their money!!

If it were me, I would take the piece of foam out from between the two circles where they join. This would stop any pressure differences since there are two carbs in different places in the scoop. Its not 100% certain that there would be any difference, bit its possible. I probably would have made the base oval like the 1969 z-28 Trans-am air cleaner setup.

I thought about the oval, even made one but the damn thing was so big it looked like a UFO sitting under my hood. So I cut it down and made this. The cross ram carbs are 16" on center. With 10" cleaners, 2" of air space and 1.5" of foam, the over all length is 33". There is also 1.5" of squish so they are not going anywhere.

If I had to do it again I would run a single 4. The width of the cross ram has been a real pain in the ass starting with me having to box the firewall, then K member shims, scrapping my silenced air cleaner idea.

well my garage isnt done,so I was planning on moving my hood outside to start working on it,but 13 inches of snow hit fri. and sat. and blew those plans out the window.Thanks again for the aluminum bar tip....mike

Is that an RC Motorsports front suspension?

It is a RC crossmember but I am using Art Morrison upper and lower control arms (The photo has the old control arms) with . I decided to switch to the A/M control arms because the RC are smaller and use the Mustang II mounts and I can't get the caster/camber angles that I can with the A/M ones. The RC kit is a great option and is affordable but there are other options out there that I think will out perform the RC kit.
