Need your opinions please
« on: February 28, 2008, 04:33:56 PM »

I just purchased a new Canadian made fuel tank and fuel tank mounting strap for my 1966 Coronet 500 which I am very happy with, but I also bought one of their 3/8" fuel tank mounted fuel sending units wihich just arrived today.
I was told that the sending unit would have a brass float and the correct 3/8" fuel filter sock, but when I opened the box up today, I did find the correct 3/8" filter sock, but the float is made out of pneunolic (sp?) plastic and not brass like my old sending unit has and most all of the sending units that are being sold today have. What do you guy's think? Should I send it back and buy another sending unit with a brass float, or will the plastic float be ok? Other than the plastic float, the rest of the sending unit looks to be well built.  Dunno

Thanks for your feedback and anyone else who is currently using a sending unit with a plastic float, I'd be interested in hearing if you have had any problems with it.

Richard

Plastic is the new standard replacement.  I would think it would be fine.  Personally I would rather use brass as I would feel better about having it instead of plastic and the weight of the brass would also seem more accurate.  Just my .02

I replaced mine, before I tore my car to pieces.  It came with the plastic float and worked fine.

Thank you and I had some similar feelings, but then a buddy of mine brought up the fact that the plastic float won't have issues with the soldered seams like the brass float could.  Dunno

Thanks very much, thats what I was hoping to hear. How long was your sending unit in use before you took the car apart?
